My husband's truck was broken into...
Question:
while parked at a local scale house with 3 other tractor/trailers. It is not a secure lot, but right off a busy 5-lane major road with lots of activity. He has been parking there for 6 months now without incident. None of the other trucks were broken into. The vandals broke the passenger side vent window and stole his TV/VCR which he bought in August. Is there any advice for us on how to make his truck more secure? How big a problem is this for drivers, will this be a constant worry, are trucks that vulnerable, or does this rarely happen? My husband is really bumed-out about this. Any advice I can pass along to him?

The only way to prevent breakins is to be in the truck at all times. Other wise you have to remove any valuebles you want to keep.

It sadly is a common occurence sometimes done by fellow drivers.

Answer:
I would never stick to a pattern of parking..And I could be off base but it could very well be another truck that parks there also and knows that your driver is going to be away from the truck for a certain amount of time.
Another thing that drivers need to remember is unless you own your truck or driving for a O/O you are not the only person with a key to that TRUCK..So you should never leave you truck just any where..
Most large companies have one key fits all..and at the same time alot of drivers are issued one key and they make copies..So even if they no longer work for that company they have a key that will fit almost all the trucks for said company.
I know of one company that had their trucks broken into right on their lot..Drivers would leave the truck to go shower or what ever and come back to a empty truck..

Answer:
They Make wing locks to make it harder to open the wing.
Also I have a motion detector hooked to a tape, has a dog that barks when you look in either side window! Cost like $65.00 at Radio Shack.
I don't know if these have been the reason or just been lucky, but I haven't been broke into!

Answer:
That is soooo cool! I'm definetely adding that to christmas list for hubby!!

Answer:
There are motion detectors that can be hung on the doors and will sound if opened. The other detourant would be having an alarm system installed.
If somebody wants to break in to a truck really that bad, they will. Devices or not.
Sometimes I go home from my run if I get in too late. If I have to park around the block from my house for lets say only 3 to 4 hours I leave the parking lights on. That (to me) would give an indication that the driver is in the truck or very nearby.
