Taking the truck around town/ staying in it?
Question:
Well my question is, if me and my wife are team driving for a company like ( swift, conway, schnieder, England ) or something along those lines.. do they allow you to pretty much always live in your truck? since we will only be keeping our adress for tax reasons we wont be running any utilites or anything so we wont be able to LIVE in it really. We dont mind about HOME time since home will be the truck if they allow it.. so is this possible? and if we wanted say our home time to be in Las cruces NM to visit family 1 day could we maybe set that up thru DM to make that our home time stop?? and can we actually drive the truck to our friends house and sleep in it?? and if so do we have to pay that little extra gass or anything??

Answer:
What you are proposing will get real old, real fast. Imagine being stuck in an 8 foot by 10 foot box with another person. Sounds like a prison to me.
There is a reason that companies give you home time.

Answer:
Me and my wife though get along very well and have lived in a 1 bedroom apt wich i know is bigger and there is times she is gone that i am not etc. so we are not ALWAYS togather.. but we get along great, and we would still have TV, Labtop, and eachother.. so regards to if its prison to you or to much time togather isint my question.. you might not love your conter part like i do mine..

Answer:
Something along these lines. Do they allow you to pretty much always live in your truck? Yup, except when it may be in the shop overnight for maintenance. Since we will only be keeping our adress for tax reasons we won't be running any utilites or anything so we won't be able to LIVE in it really. We dont mind about HOME time since home will be the truck if they allow it.. So is this possible? Yup. And if we wanted say our home time to be in Las Cruces NM to visit family 1 day could we maybe set that up thru DM to make that our home time stop?? Yup, but there are truckstops in Anthony where you could park your rig too. Break stops can be managed thru trip planning. And can we actually drive the truck to our friends house and sleep in it?? Some municipalities have ordnances against big trucks (bob-tail or with trailer) in residential areas. And if so do we have to pay that little extra gass or anything?? If you do your trip planning and coordination with your dispatcher, you're not gonna have to worry about paying for fuel. BTW, gas is for 4-wheelers, fuel is for big trucks. Guess you didn't take my suggestion of spending a weekend in your bathroom seriously. Try it and see how you feel Monday morning BOL

Answer:
At least if you spent a weekend in your bathroom you could relieve yourself and take a shower.
You probably won't have any trouble but you have to be reasonable. They probably don't want you bobtailing 100 miles to go to Disneyland.

Answer:
Ya bunker LOL. i am not saying that but if you stop in a city and wana maybe travel 10 - 20 miles thru the town or so to friends or family . they wont mind to much and if we had to caculate that into miles we drove to pay them for fuel or something..

Answer:
Like I said, as long as you don't take advantage, most companies probably won't have a problem with you bobtailing around.
It won't take you long to realize that sometimes it is much more enjoyable to get a room for the weekend. Find a place that is close to what you want to see and walk... there is no better way to see a new place.

Answer:
Ya thats true. i was just looking at it as $$ saver.. without havin to pay for a room.. but i am sure would be nice to get out of the truck for a change..

Answer:
I wouldn't worry about 10 or 20 miles or paying for fuel.
Answer:
I would. If your on a 34 hour reset or a 10 hour break and your truck has QC (most do)in it then the log dept. is going to have a fit. If you put it in gear and move it your are logged on duty as far as logs go. Most companies frown on it for that reason alone. Also if you are involved in any accident and logged off duty you can be in serious trouble. Bob tailing around for fun is usually not allowed.
It's better to simply rent a car or call a cab. Park your truck near your friend/family or hotel room so you can go back to it at bed time. Idleing is usually OK but driving it around is not.

Answer:
With fuel pushing (even reaching) $3.00 a gallon, most companies will shut this perk off soon, if they even allow it!

Answer:
If you think you can use a company tractor to vacation in, like see the Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, Yellow Stone National Park,,,etc, your in for a surprise. It's called the unemployment line.
Most companies will not allow you to use their truck as your personal joy ride.
Check with the Company your going to hire on with and ask their Safety dept, or Operations Dept first about using their tractor as a person vehicle. Most will fire you for bobtailing without permission from the Safety or the Operations Dept.
If you get fired for "unauthorized use of a company truck", it will most likely be put on your DAC report. Once that happens, you'll find it almost impossible to get hired on with any reputable trucking company.

Answer:
Alot of what you are asking will be determined by your dispatcher and the relationship you have with him.
I rode with my husband as a passenger on and off for 3 years or so.
It was far from a picnic!
Depending on who his dispatcher was at the time, sometimes he got permission to "Bobtail" around town and such. But it was more of an exception then the norm.
There are ways to "sight see" and get the job done, but it takes a lot of trip planning and staying on "route" otherwise the Qualcomm lets them know when you are out of route for than a certain number of miles.
We are in Flroida and I got to "see Vegas" 4-5 times and actaully stop only twice. We rode thru the Hoover Damn, and parked long enough to look over a balconey and take a few pictures, but that was about it..
The one thing we were able to see alot of was dirt, mud and rock paved lots waiting to get loaded or unloaded though

As for this question, they will love ya for it!!

Answer:
Want a vacation type job , checkout delivering new Motor Homes talked with 1 couple who were doing quite well at doing it.

Answer:
Saw 2 sitting at a picnic area yesterday near the 1000 ISLANDS , seems that the LOVE BEIN IN THE TRUCK had worn a bit thin , hell of a ARGUMENT GOING ON
