Avoiding state taxes?
Question:
It seems to make sense if you are an otr trucker with no permanent residence other than a ups address to move your address to a state that doesn’t take taxes out of your check, as long as the company you work for has a terminal in that state. Has anyone done this? And are there any pitfalls to this? I live in the peoples republic of California and am looking to get out.

Answer:
You do have a permanent address. It's on you license. Most companies like your W-4, mailing, and license address to match. BOL

Answer:

And so do the feds.
By law, your current mailing address must be on your CDL. The address on your CDL is considered your residence. So you pay taxes to whatever state your CDL is from.
If your mailing address is different from the address on your CDL, that raises audit flags at the IRS and red flags at the DMV.
Answer:
Thanks for the tip, How hard is it to transfer your cdl to another state; say I got my cdl in California but wanted residence in Nevada is it difficult?

Answer:
Establishing residency in another state is not that difficult, some only require 30 days of living in the state to qualify.....................................your problem is gonna be PROVING that you indeed live in that state.
PO boxes dont qualify as a valid residency................thus you are either gonna have to actually rent a place with a valid address to obtain such residency or perhaps use a friend or relatives address in the state you desire to become a resident in.
No state income tax is the primary reason I still reside in Tx,and if/when I make my planned move west,it is gonna be to Nevada,or I will maintain my Tx residency strictly for tax purposesrecovering dweller..........oilfield trash division
