suspended license from bicycle tickets
Question:
i know this seems bizzar. but in n.y.c i recieved many bicycle tickets from runing a red light to not having a bell. after not paying the tickets i got my driving license suspended until the fines were paid .[suspended for scoflaw.]my m.v.r report shows numerous suspensions for this currently my licence has been clean for one year and never recieved a ticket in a motrized vehicle or ever had a accident. the rate for my auto insurence was not affected . my question is can i get a otr job with this unique situation my cdl road test is next week and barring any onforeseen events i plan on passing.[/list] Answer: Stay on the Bicycle and make sure you buy that 'Bell".... Answer: I'm confused. Were the bicycle tickets issued to your driver's license? Does your MVR show these tickets? What "suspensions" are on your MVR? Were they from tickets to your MVR, or for owing NYC (not the state...?) money due on outstanding warrants from non-motor vehicle citations? Here's an idea. Since a CDL school's goal to get your money may motivate them to mis-advise you, I'd suggest contacting recruiters at two of the big training carriers. Ask if you can send them a fax copy of your MVR so they can advise you if your record would disqualify you from employment aftet truck school. Do this with at least two carriers simultaneously, to make sure their answers track similar. You want to know if this situation will disqualify you from employment, so ask the folks who do the employing. The big training carriers (Swift, Schneider, Werner, etc) are good resources for answering this type of general question (even though you may want to start somewhere else) because they process a lot qualification checks and can advise you with little additional effort to their work load, and like to build relationships with potential new drivers, etc. But don't take anything they say about your situation seriously until they've seen a fax of your MVR. Bicycle tickets... . That is an unusual question... Answer: I saw this thread, but didn't have the faintest idea of how to respond to it. I did note it though on my notepad as a potential entrant in the "End of the year" post nominations thread when December rolls around. Answer: ......I guess you have to be New Yorker, for starters. I'm as stumped as you Burky -- but I suppose the bottom line is, check with the folks you might want a job with (or a temporary substitute) to see what they have to say about....uh..... .."bicycle tickets". "I don't think we're in New York City anymore, totto..." Answer: The real bummer is that not only can you not get a job as a CDL driver, but you can't even get a job in Manhattan as a bicycle messenger with that record........ Answer: On a more serious note... I think I know what he is saying. In New York, a person can have their driver's license suspended for non payment of various things like child support, overdue fines (even "bicycle tickets", I guess ), or monetary judgments against you. Zooterr, if you want a trucking job you will have to ask the potential employers, just as Shuffler said. One doesn't know how they will respond in this case, so be prepared to explain the situation to them. Next time pay your fines. Your potential employers will not appreciate you blowing them off, as it will render you useless if your license gets suspended again. Answer: thanks for trying to help me out with the info. its pretty embarrising to be in this sitiuation but in nyc there very creative when it comes to new ways to raise funds. to answer shuflers questions the suspentions listed on mvr report do not state the actuall bicycle offense but rather the suspention is for not paying the tickets on time or failure to show up in traffic court . if one was to read the mvr report it just states suspention for scoflow and shows the date issued and removed after i payed all the fines . it is ny state not the city that oversees the suspentions.i called up werner and was tolled since they have there own insurance co. it would not be a problem. watkins and shepard told me no way they feel any one who cant pay there bicyle tickets on time is irresponsible and not watkins shepard material. my licence was actually suspended before i took my four wheel road test when i asked the judge how could you suspend something that i don't presently have he told me your privledge to drive a car was suspended for the bicycle tickets , but you can still continue to ride your bicycle. Answer: ok...that's what I suspected. They witheld your driving priveleges for messin' with the courts on non-driving matters. The problem with a commercial driving employer may be that you have a history of losing driving priveledges. What if you were to similarly have your license suspended while working for XYZ trucking because you didn't pay a parking ticket or something.... It's not just the reason you were suspended -- it's your history of letting your license be suspended for any reason that may be a problem. Some drivers are having this problem with states suspending licenses for non-payment of court ordered child support, etc. The companys say -- we don't care what the reason for the suspension is, we just want drivers who won't have problems keeping their license... Again, I'd run it past a couple major trucking employers to get a feel for how it may affect your general qualification. But make sure they actually see your MVR printout, via fax, before basing any future decisions on what they tell you. Eliminate the translation and possible misunderstandings that could come up in a telephone conversation -- likely in this unusual situation -- by asking for their fax number and sending it to them. You'll get a better answer if they have your MRV in-hand. Answer: Actually, the big question is this: Do you have a t-shirt with this on the front of it? Lets see, you got a bunch of tickets for running red lights on a bicycle in NYC.... I'll answer your question with a question though..... If you can't obey a red light when you're on a bike, what makes anyone think you will do the same in a semi?So I like what I do, you don't, too bad, get over it. Get on with your life, I am. Answer: I J' Walk on occasion. Can't do that in a truck so I'm safe. One time is not a problem if it's for child support and some other administrative things. Repeated times and you might as well go to a trade school not requiring a drivers license. Answer: If you can't handle a bicycle what makes you think you can handle a truck? Answer: to answer truckdrivers question what makes me think ican handle a truck when i can't handle a bike. The brand new cdl i just got last week. now iam ready to trade in my two wheels for eighteen. probably end up going over to swift they showd some interest in my application. as far as the bike goes i spent twenty years rideing the streets as a bike messenger dodging big trucks and buses and never got hit. Answer: Remember to be kind to the messenger bicyclists if you eventually hit the streets with a big rig. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
