Want to get a CDL
Question:
Hi everyone,
I have the opportunity to get some work in the movie biz as a driver. I need a Class A (even though I don't think I'd ever be driving a tractor trailor).
In the off times, I certainly wouldn't mind using the license to temp, work on-call etc., and heck, maybe go full time OTR at some point.
Anyway, I would be really grateful for some recommendations as to how I should go about getting trained to pass the tests?
Thanks in advance!

Answer:
Check out your local Community College. Their cheaper and give better training than the more costly schools. But you need the time for it, usually 6-8 weeks and often everyday. Some do have weekend classes. After that it's up to you and if you have a truck available to keep up the skills you learn.
Just remember that any schooling you do now won't be any good to you in a few months if you don't drive on a regular basis. Most drivers who go to school and then stay out a few months or longer afterward find out companies won't hire them without some sort of remedial training and usually OTR training with one of their trainers. It's one of those things you have to stay current with.

Answer:
What endorsements are they needing? If it doesn't require air brakes or a DOT card, Just go get a book, study up on it and go take the test. I believe that this can be done in anything that has a gvwr of 26,001, which can amount to a heavy duty 1 ton and a gooseneck trailer. Plus the test isnt that hard.
If you need the air brakes and DOT physical, or do plan on going OTR, Do as Stuffs mentioned and go to a school.

Answer:
Go to www.azons.com/cdl , register and take some of their sample CDL tests.
