If you decide to play "the game".
Question:
This might interest you--or you may figure it will never happen because you're too smart to get caught. RIGHT! Radar detectors: Illegal in commercial vehicles. Penalties range from fines up to 2 years in prison (Alabama, if I remember correctly). Scanners: Illegal when mounted in a motor vehicle in 33 states. Penalties up to 5 years in prison. Laws have been on the books since prohibition days and have withstood numerous Supreme Court challenges. Radar jammers: Again illegal in many states. Maximum penalty I know of is 1 year in prison. (Iowa). Log book, comic book, etc.: Up to 5 years in Federal Penitentary. A lot of drivers will tell you these are never enforced. Quite a few drivers sitting in prison can tell you differently. Not that this will stop anyone from using any of these, but have never seen this mentioned on here, so thought I'd just give you something to consider if you want to be "Billy Big Rigger". Answer: Originally posted by WUZZY/CHARLIE: Log book, comic book, etc.: I understand all except the comic book part, or are you sayin making a comic book out of a log book? Partzee Answer: Log book is commonly referred to as a "comic" book. Real laughing matter---until you get caught. Then, of course, the authorities are just a bunch of rip-off, money-grubbing thieves, violating your constitutional rights by using communist, fascist, tactics. Answer: Many thanks, Partzee Answer: Originally posted by WUZZY/CHARLIE: Scanners: Illegal when mounted in a motor vehicle in 33 states. Penalties up to 5 years in prison. In some states, mere possession of a scanner in a vehicle, whether or not that scanner is functioning or even mounted is illegal. Radar jammers: Again illegal in many states. Maximum penalty I know of is 1 year in prison. (Iowa). Federal law makes most active radar jammers illegal anywhere. This is because in order to jam radar, the jammer must transmit at power levels similar to or greater than the unit it is jamming. Transmitting radio frequencies above a certain power level on the radar bands requires an FCC license. This would be in addition to any local laws prohbiting jammers. Also, "Bigrigger" CB radios are illegal. That is,those radios like Galaxys,Northstar, Connex, etc, because they are "export" radios, and they ae capable of transmitting on unauthorized bands with unauthorized power levels. Partzee Partzee, Good punchline, now the drumroll please Answer: I once heard a scanner is o.k. to have in your truck, as long as you have no C.B. Any truth to this? ------------------------------------------------------------ I belive I've had it y'all. It's apparent this place is never going to change....then again; why should it? It gets the clientel it deserves. Bette Midler Answer: Any truth to this? Sounds like another "trucker tale" but I know here it's illegal to transmit information that's recieved by a scanner. Actually scanner laws differ from one jurisdiction to another. Some states they're legal ,some not and you also have local city laws that differ from states law. The whole topic of scanners being legal or not depends on where you're at. Mike Answer: I kept a scanner in my truck all the time, breaks up all the managomus time spent in the pit stockpilling, or on the road while hauling, it is just entertaining, This does not make it legal. In Wisconsin, it is HIGHLY illegal, and I was never caught(had it mounted next to the PTO stand, so there was no way to see it). Do not do this on the road, big big big fines TJ Answer: well, i tell ya'll what one time dot tried to give me a ticket for having a scanner and a jammer, and well shoot if a us marshal didn't pull in right then, and lo and behold it was an old buddy of mine, well he pulls his gun out, shoots the dot cop and then, then tells me to give him a call whenever the dot is harrasing me...this was while I was on my way to a secret air force base to load the truck into a hercules transport since my load was a coast to coast run in 1 day, just called up my old buddy and he told me where he was and he flew me and truck to another base on the other coast. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . If you couldn't tell, this story was not true.........as are all stories involving the us marshal and truckers, if you, or anyone you know has been subjected to stories such as this one, I urge you to find the person who told it and tell them to shut up, thank you. There are no stupid questions, only stupid people Answer: I think it was Aliens aman Answer: If it's unlawful to have a scanner in a vehicle, functioning or not,how would someone transport it home after purchasing it?? Would they have to walk home from the store?? Answer: scanner in my pick up. Use it all the time to listen to airport feequencies I've programmed in. Gotten stopped before and explained to the officer and never had a problem. Answer: Railfans in PA & OH often sit along the tracks in cars taking photos & listing to RR radio channels on scanners. This way they know when a train is coming their way & they can have the camera/camcorder ready. In Akron OH some of them know some of the RR employees by name from listining to the scanner so much. On rainy days they sit in their cars, sometimes within view of the Akron police. I have yet to see one in handcuffs. So......I guess it's OK in OH. Maybe "vehicle" means a commercial vehicle..??? I don't know....I'm not a lawyer. Drive safe. Be carefull at RR crossings. The life you save might be mine. Answer: Okay! Forgot I have to get real specific here. Police Band Scanners: I mentioned they are illegal in 33 States. This is if they are mounted, installed, working, capable of receiving any frequency used by the police. Doesn't matter what type of vehicle. If it is not hooked up and in working order, carry as many as you want. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
