GOT A SITUATION
Question:
I know that a lot of drivers that have been in the job for a little bit have been hard on SWIFT, but I got some questions. I was told that right out of school I can go right to hauling cars for SWIFT. A recriter told me that I will start out(after training)with .26 cpm and $120 every drop. The only thing she said was that I would probaly start out running to Cali because they just picked up an Lexus account and all the cars come in to the west coast. After doing this for 6 mos I can pick up one of their dedicated accounts running out of the ports( Balto, Norfolk, N.J.). Is this something that is good to start out with? Answer: good. The drop pay I would guess is for an entire load. You might ask about multiple drops. How many on average and do they pay extra drops. Any time you can snag a dedicated is usually a good thing. For myself I don't mind the routine. I like knowing where I'm going and what I'm hauling back. As to the knocks on Swift I wouldn't know really. A driver here where I live has been with them 5 or 6 yrs. One huge outfit is much like the next. It would be good if somehow you could talk with a couple drivers in their carhaul division and get the straight skinny on the dedicated..BOL.. Character: Doin the right thing when nobody's lookin..JC Watts Answer: Having Just gone through orientation with Swift last week I can tell you this. The orientation instructor explained to the few that asked about it, that you have to have at least 6 months experience without incident before they will consider you for the car hauling division. Now they do have a flatbed division which does pay slightly more cpm...I think its .27 cpm. The training program for this differs as well....3 days tie down schooling in Schoals,IN...followed by 6 weeks with a trainer. NO 4x4 training program for skateboarders. They did offer that to if anyone was interested. But beware! The flatbed division was explained to us as.....once you volunteer for it..the only way out is to quit Swift. Thats just what the orientation instructor said. Myself personally I would just want to get as much experience driving vans safely and learning the system before I made any moves ahead. Thats just what I know....and believe me...it ain't much........................ Answer: Don't get your hopes up Coleman. Check the information out with another at Swift,I doubt even Swift will give a Lexus load to a Newbie. She was either mistaken or lying. Delivering cars is not what a Newbie should start with anyway. Mike Answer: The only way to get into the car hauling fleet was to be employed at Swift for at least 6 months with absolutely ZERO violations of any kind AND your current dispatcher and terminal manager had to sign off on you. Note zero violations meant no late loads, no failed DOT inspections, no log book errors at all, and no accidents regardless of fault. One final thing to consider with Swift's auto haul division. It is quite easy to find yourself suspended without pay for a few weeks, yanked off the fleet all together, or fired for even extremely minor damage to a car. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: I know of a couple of guys who used to do auto haul. One of them had like 15 year's experience no accidents, tickets or anything. Get's a load of car's has one accident and loses everything. At the time he was running two truck's one his one he let another guy drive. He lost both trucks, his house, cars, and got divorced after the process was all over and said and done with. Auto haul has got to be some of the most expensive freight to handle and no company could ever pay me enough to do that kind of work. It is really tricky stuff also. Most of the time damage done to the car's goes back to the driver. Believe me, it ain't fun having to pay for a new paint job or a new door for a brand Lexus or Mercedes. If it ain't broke modify it, that's what I do. Funny thing is it alway's end's up falling apart. Can't quite figure it out. Answer: Thanks Guys. I think I will leave the car hauling business alone and concentrate on T.M.C. or Trans Am. Answer: Coleman, A recriter told me that I will. . . I believe there are two t's in re-Critter. Gotta look out for those guys. Being an ex-Navy man, I'have had some experience with them Critters (re or otherwise) they're all he same. Truth is stranger than fiction, because fiction. . . has to make sense. Dodge makes it. . .CUMMINS shakes it! www.TurboDieselRegister.com Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
