There are much better training companies out there. There might be some Werner drivers here that have good info, but have you applied anywhere else?Disclaimer:Pick too ugly to post at this time,LOL. Answer: Yes Jack5 i have applied for over 30 companies on the net i trianed for 2 weeks at schneiders (aug 05 ) and when i was finished my 2 week training i had a call saying that a former security company i worked for 1 month had bad mouthed me so i was dismissed needless to say i was blown away but i was still looking one company said all my paperwork was in order but there was a prob with no female trainers so i said i didnt mind being trained with a man i was told they dont mind but... their wifes might needless to say i was speachless and just thank you and ended the call felling a bit disscuraged i gave up for a while but i love driving and miss the trucks since i see them on the streets every day i miss my passion so this is y i am willing to work with a company that is willing to give me a chance or a break i need the experiance and i dont even mind if i have to team drive for a year or so, so this is y i would like to know more of their training they provide ... thanks Lady Answer: Ok, I see. Sorry to hear about your problems finding a company. After 1 year experience you can move on to something better. Much better. That was rather ridiculous of schneider to dismiss you for that reason after you had already been approved and finished training. I heard there are at least 2 Werner drivers on here. Hopefully they'll come out of hiding and give you some info. Good Luck. You have my best wishes. Disclaimer:Pick too ugly to post at this time,LOL. Answer: Thanks Jack Answer: I'm one of the Werner drivers mentioned. You live in Ontario, Canada? Will you be employed by Werner Canada or Werner Enterprises in the US? Or....better way to ask.....will you be returning to Canada for your hometime? Is Canada your legal residence? Make sure you understand exactly what you'll be paid for the job you're being hire for. Do not assume the cpm on the website applies to your specific job. Call your recruiter and ask again, "exactly what does the opening you're hiring me for pay?" At Springfield, OH., you'll get a few days classroom work and then be assigned a trainer. You'll be asked if you mind a "co-ed" trainer -- a man -- and I suggest trying that. It makes you available to more trainers which could get you assigned and finished faster. Plus, the male co-ed trainers, for the most part, tend to be older, married, and more experienced. They go through fairly intensive sexual harrassment training and are held to an extremely high standard in the difficult situation they put themself in. I haven't met a one who wasn't both a gentleman and an inspired trainer -- best we got, on average. But team training with any company -- even a top union job like Auto Truck Transport (see recent newbie thread) is hit-and-miss. Trainers are just relatively average drivers, and that always includes a few nuts who just do it for the money. Make sure you've got someone who takes the job seriously - especially safety proceures. Personality issues are temporary and end as soon as you've completed the training. But the actual example that's presented to you in training will greatly influence your early solo experience, so don't be shy to contact your training coordinator by phone and get off the truck if you get some bozo who doesn't have your best future interests at heart, or seems too interested in your personal situation. Their job is to coach you to do the job properly - including a lot of QualComm related data management unique to Werner (paperless logs, etc). You should be backing, driving city traffic and planning routes as much as possible -- not just running easy freeway miles till you get the required hours behind the wheel. Good luck. As noted above, most folks use Werner as a stepping stone to other driving jobs. Take advantage of this opportunity to drive fairly safe equipment and run your truck legally, safely, by the book and without falsifying a log book or racing around, etc. Keep your record clean and protect your CDL. The record you build the next year or two is your passport to other opportunities. One reason so many rookie Werner drivers move on is because they can. There's no pressure to take unreasonable chances that could jeapordize your record and limit your future opportunities. Take advantage of this opportunity, instead of carrying a couple minor accidents and speeding tickets that will lock you in. Unlike some entry-level carriers, you don't have to speed or take unnecessary risks to stay in good standing with Werner. They expect you to do the job safely and legally, and move on......or do the job safely and legally, and stay. Either way, "safely and legally" is strictly enforced -- which is why I consider it the better BIG entry-level carrier for students, if that's how you want to start. Answer: I start orientation with Werner here in Allentown on Wednesday. I'm really anxious to get going. I just completed a six week PTDI course and was prehired about halfway through. I also applied all over from local to long haul to see who would bite and what they had to offer. Werner seems like the most logical choice given my situation and where I see myself in a year from now. Good luck! Answer: Good luck, and above all else, be safe. If you get a trainer that takes the work and safety seriously, stick with them -- even if you don't particularly like them otherwise. It's the trainer's approach to the work that counts. You'll be rid of them soon enough. If you get one of the idiot trainers that takes risks, doesn't let you do most of the work, or constantly complains about the job or Werner, get off that truck and ask for someone else. The first few weeks out here are so important, it's worth a few more nights in a motel waiting for a good trainer, if that what it takes. Safety is everything. Answer: [b ok i had my interview with werner in ontario now i sit and wait, then i had and some tests and passed for the city bus driving they start at 20 and hour but if i take the training for werner i was told its a golden run driving the GTA to just outside Detroit and back sound like a great deal so not sure what i will take yet they both offers r good... Lady [/b] Answer: i trained with werner in 2001 i must say it's about 50/50 ypu'll get alot of b.s. or have a good learning experince....with werner is depends on what kinda trainer u get. either u get a slave driver wanting you to make all of his money for him and not concerd if u can really handle things on your on. Or someone who will take u aside and show u right from wrong and how to improve on it. i had both 1st a slave driver then a teacher and a friend now. good luck i also went to springfield, oh term. you'll be ok hopefully they want have you sitting in a hotel for 2 or 3wks waiting on a trainer seeing how your a women. they usually only want women trainning women but there anit alot of women driver so u might get a male trainer and you will have to take a sexual harrasment class and he will to. anyway good luck i hope you do great and keep us up to date on your experince as a otr trainee. seeing how u have a years exp you might only have to do 2 or 3wks wit trainer Answer: Hi Lady,i too am in a dilemma about what i should do.I have been accepted for hire by USA Truck company and a city bus driver job that starts at $14.50 an hour.I love trucks but then again i know that i won't be home everynight as like driving for city bus company here in ft.lauderdale,fl.Let me know what you decided ok.Good luck.
