MTI
Question:
I have heard only good about Millis Transfer.
But thier training (school) is only 3 weeks long.
Some say that would be like a CDL Mill. any thoughts? I also hear they only hire from thier school, so I guess 3 weeks is good enough for them. And Im not certain its PTDI certified. but from all I have read and heard about Millis is a stand up company. Any comments are welcome here.

Answer:
I don't know anything about Millis, but i believe if you weren't ready they wouldn't put you behind the wheel. Also if you don't feel ready, don't be afraid to tell them, because most companies would rather give you additional training instead of have you wreck their truck!!
I believe the training length depends on the person. There's some experienced drivers out here that are probably more dangerous then the new recruits. But like i said if your not comfortable, then let the folks know.

Answer:
Absolutley, I have no problem with the course. I have some expierience with trucks as I was a mechanic for a few years when I got out of the service. I was just wondering how a reputapable company like Millis could train drivers in 3 weeks and most Companies wont touch you unless you go through a 8 week PTDI certified course.
I have studied a lot of CDL courses and I feel I could be comfortable with a 3 week course. I believe I need training on actual driving, Log books and trip planning. The mechanics is pretty easy stuff for me.

Answer:
If you are going to go with somebody MTI and Millis is the ticket. NICE Equipment (they will make sure they can trust you with it) top pay for a newbie... 30 cents and paper logs... you are not expected to cheat but you do have the opportunity to maximize your time. Bonus for meeting mileage goals, and the mileage available to meet those goals. I started school in May of 2002 and now drive a 2 year old truck.... so far life is as it should be.

Answer:
Most companies that have a school also have a total program. You should learn the basics and then complete the training OTR with a trainer. The program is not just 3 weeks. It is 3 weeks plus OTR training or on the job training. I understand they will not run you as a team but as a trainer/trainee program. Better than most.

Answer:
I attended the MTI school in Feb. It is a very good school with excellent trainers. You DO learn to drive the truck, believe me! You are also taught the basics of logging and trip planning. Once you are through with the school and go through the orientation you are assigned a trainer and go OTR with that trainer for 5 to 8 weeks. While with the trainer you will hone your driving skills, logging techniques and learn many routes to customers. I fully agree, you can't learn everything in 3 weeks, but after finishing with the trainer, you are ready to go by out there by yourself. You will learn more the first month by yourself than you did the whole time with the school and trainer, I know I did. I get plenty of miles the money is good and I am having a wonderful time seeing this great country. I encourage you to check out MILLIS and see for yourself. Besides, where else can you get the experience you need for the low price of $500?
Good Luck in your decision and hope to see you on the road one day!!
