Has trucking gone to the "Me" generation?
Question:
Within the last 5 or so years I have noticed what I will call the "ME" truckdriver. It seems to follow drivers that work for a company that has there truck governed to a low speed, but not always. Here are a few examples that I have observe.
JB Hunt driver took 10 miles to pass a Roadway truck, only got by because Roadway was taking an exit.
Swift trruck refuses to let other trucks merge on interstate, nothing was on there left side to keep them from moving over.
This one apllies tp alot of drivers. Parking at a truck stop where it says no paking.
Just my 2 cents.

Answer:
Roadway should have backed off for about 5 seconds. The problem would of been fixed. But you have to arrogant self centered drivers in this case.
The minute he got over some BBR in a big truck would have started bitclhing at him. Can't win some times.
Well lets see, if you park on the fuel island for more than 5 minutes drivers start (edited). So if you need to get a quick bite and a drink and the lot is full I don't see a problem with it. If your out of hours and can't see straight I refere you park in a no parking zone as opposed to killing some one. But it is easy to bilch about some one else when you are parked nice and safely in a marked parking spot. If the shoe was on the other foot then it might be a different story.
My pet peeve is truckers who worry about what everyone else is doing.
But the answer is yes. Since deregulation trucking has become a "ME" industry and no one else matters.

Answer:
My objection is with guys like the yahoo in a green IH Eagle I saw today: flying down the highway in the left lane (illegal here) pushing 85-90MPH, tailgating cars & blowing his air horns if they didn't get out of the way fast enough.
Answer:
Thats just flat out dangerous
It would be great if there was a way to stop them but I've found insulting them on th CB doesn't even get their attention.

Answer:
"Me Generation? "Dumbazz" more like it.
You get what you pay for.
Answer:

There is: "Hello, 911, I need to report a dangerous driver."
Answer:
Its always been like that. Nothing new.

Answer:
From reading your post I have a feeling you haven't been driving very long.

Answer:
I've been helping to clean up the results of stupidity on the road for over 4 years...that's 3.5 years more than it took me to lose what little sympathy I had for idiots.
Answer:
You know I have called 911 on several drivers and even once on a car that passed me and a woman was in the back seat with a sign "help" and I have NEVER seen any authorities show up even with the woman that I followed for 5 miles trying to keep up and making another 911 call to update there location. So I don't even bother anymore.
Answer:
I called them to report what turned out to be a drunk driver (BAC over .25%) recently...I was running ~65MPH, he was doing 85-90. No more than 2 miles after I disconnected, I passed him, pulled over by 2 cops.
Answer:
How did you know his BAC level?202 N Main Street
Summerfield Il 62289
TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE!

Answer:
I pulled over to tell the cop I was the one who called & to give my name & phone number in case he needed to get in touch with me...I asked if he was drunki, and one of them said he blew over .25%.
Answer:
Our resident old-timer makes a good point:

And like Stuffs said, those governed trucks that get stuck in the left lane are NOT always mindless idiots. Occasionally I'll stay behind someone I want to pass to see how they do on a slight hill before I get out there, then wait till there's lots of space behind me on the next hill and start to pass....but this time he puts his foot down on this hill to keep me from passing him. If he doesn't back off, I immediately put on my right signal and slowly decel and get behind him again. Let him win his pathetic little victory. It usually isn't costing anymore than a minute over the next half-hour anyway..... and if he's got any sense of decency what-so-ever, he might end-up feeling as small as he was when he refused to give me a little consideration...

Answer:

I'll second that...... for you... very good topic guys....
