Just a little common sense
Question:
okay newbies (possibly even some (ahem) seasoned professionals)....I have been a cashier at a truck stop for 2 1/2 years, and the asst. manager for 6 months. There's a few things I'd like to bring to your attention: When your dispatcher doesn't have a reload for you and you have to play phone tag for a day or two, it's not the cashier's fault, please don't yell at her. If your fuel card isn't activated, the cashier cannot do anything until you call your company. At most truck stops, you can get a free shower when you fuel up, there is absolutely no reason in the world why you should go for days on end without showering, and putting on clean clothes. I can't tell you how many times I've literally had my throat burn and then gag from the smell of a hardworking driver that doesn't bathe. When you DO get into the shower room, there's usually a roll of toilet paper, and a functioning toilet. Please don't wipe your boogers on the walls of the shower or hock a loogie into the sink. That's pretty gross. As I've said before, most of the drivers are pretty decent...but once in a while, they may not think about the here and now, instead, they're already 50 miles up the road. Answer: While most drivers do not take out their frustrations on cashiers, etc......I've seen a few that have. You are right! There is no excuse not to shower at least every other day. The ones that don't shower often are most likely the ones that spend countless hours at the Cherry Master dropping change in it like it's going out of style. After doing that, they've burned up any money that they got taking cash advances, they don't have $5-7 left for a shower. As far as the "common sense" thing, some people just don't have any what-so-ever. ******************************* "I've always been different with one foot over the line. Winding up somewhere, one step ahead or behind. It ain't been so easy, but I guess I shouldn't complain. I've always been crazy, but it's kept me from going insane." (from Waylon Jennings) Answer: for newbie cashiers going to work in a truck stop.. Do not take the following out on the drivers: You've been at work for 8 hours and the person who was supposed to releive you does not show up. Please do not take this out on the driver and be slow and rude with your service. A driver wants to cash a qualcomm check,it's your 10th one in a row and it seems like your line is never getting shorter, please don't take it out on the driver.. Your boss has been on your case all day and your in a pi$$ed off mood, please don't take it out on the driver... Your, kids, husband, wife or significant other have pi$$ed you off and your day at work just sucks and you can't wait to leave, Please don't take it out on the driver... You had another driver leave without paying for fuel, Please don't take it out on the driver trying to pay for his.. You have to empty all the garbage in the store, again, becasue nobody else wants to...Please don't take it out on the driver... A driver complains that the hot water and or water pressure is not right and he wants a differant one, actually let someone know instead of just giving the same shower to another driver.. Ask your employess who clean the showers to actually use CLEAN water and disinfectant when cleaning each bathroom as to not just be spreading the dirt around between the showers. Ask them to actually clean the shower floors, not just use a dirty bucket of water that does nothing and leaves a wonderful, gross, film on the floor.. Please ask employees to not have personal conversation between each other and be talking on the phone with, freinds, family etc... when waiting on customers, this could speed up the line.. Please when you see that your fuel island is backed up.. but their are no drivers paying for their fuel..make an announcement ASAP and ask them to pay for their fuel because they are blocking other driver or preventing them from being able to fuel themselves.. Please, if you offer free coffee, don't make a big deal that a driver took Soda instead, it's not a big friggin deal.. ----------------------------- http://www.hlatty.com/FSL5CS/Articles/articles4.asp Answer: CMEFUp, as an assistant manager do u still get minimum wage? or do they kick you up a quarter or 2? Whats your pay rate 7.00 an hour if your lucky? No but seriously thats what happens when u live in a small town in Texas and you have no skill. So clean my shower and get use to it. Answer: An interesting thread until the topic shows up. Mike Answer: Originally posted by nofxn40s: CMEFUp, as an assistant manager do u still get minimum wage? or do they kick you up a quarter or 2? You're a funny man. Truth be known, I do have an education, and the pay is more than adequate. I will gladly clean your shower, because it's necessary and usually appreciated. And when you come into my store acting like an ***, I will smile at you and tell you to have a nice day. Answer: To "me": your right. There are a lot of bad attitudes in the stores as well. But there are also those that try to do right regardless. It seems that everyone got the impression that I was insulting the general trucker population, which was not my intent at all. My apologies. As for making the announcement of having drivers move their trucks off the fuel island....that's almost too funny. I have taken much verbal abuse because of that announcement. What I find most amusing though, is that the trucker that comes in raising all kinds of noise and talking big to the cashier will not ask another driver to move his truck. Answer: As always, the "truth" resides in the middle somewhere. There are cranky, foul-tempered clerks, and cranky, foul-tempered drivers. Everywhere. Not all, by any means, just some. And if the shoe fits, is the message, I think. All decent people want on EITHER side of the situation is to be treated decently... and that isn't much to ask, is it? DD Answer: It seems that everyone got the impression that I was insulting the general trucker population, which was not my intent at all. My apologies. ---------------------------------------------- I did not take it that way.... Your just speaking the truth as to how some drivers can be disgustingly rude, dirty, stinky, etc... I have seen drivers who look and smell like they have not showered in a week.. I have also heard drivers curse out cashiers over stupid crap... But, It does work both ways, as I have seen cashiers who look like and act like they were out all night, act as though they are not getting paid to wait on customers, and curse drivers out and get rude for know reason as well.. ----------------------------- http://www.hlatty.com/FSL5CS/Articles/articles4.asp Answer: and have dealt with my share of what I call rude customers. Some people think that becasue you are an employee of the place they are patronizing they can treat that employee like crap, that they are not a real person who is trying to do a job. On the flip side I have also been to places a few times that I recieved rude service every time, and after the third time usually (though a few times it took only once) I have vowed to never return, and haven't. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
