north east trucking
Question:
I'm seriously considering obtaining a cdl.
I live in central maine (on route 1, 20 mi off the interstate) and have concerns about getting miles and getting home more than twice a year. Do any of the major(training) companies run regularly in the northeast/canada area.
Also, the local tech school has cdl program; however, yhey have one instructor and one truck and are not certified by ane trucking group.
any advise would be helpfull

Answer:
Getting home twice a year? Most carriers have you home in 2 weeks if you request it right before you leave home. I know Marten has a few accounts in the Maine and New england area. When I was with MTC I used to haul trees
from Fredericton,Nb to Texas. As a new driver with no cdl you might want to
check MTC out in Ft. worth,Tx. I would try Marten first. They have a much better
reputation than MTC. There are a few others that run Maine but I think they want experience. Good LuckDisclaimer:Pick too ugly to post at this time,LOL.

Answer:
Thier are alot of companys that run the North East Region and get their drivers home on weekends. Do some investigating with trucking companys in your area, see who will hire you out of school. I would ask this school what companys hire from their school and talk to them before going to that school. Some companys hire out of certain truck driving schools. I would find a company then find a school. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck!

Answer:
There are a lot of companies up there to check out..
Dyshart's in Bangor.., McCaines, Pottles, Currier in Gorham,NH.., There used to be an RST tank company up there too... I would stick to the local companies if it was me.. Working for Marteen, ect.. they may not be able to regularly get you home when you want to be there.
I used to live in NH and when I worked for Stevens Trans in Dallas they said no problem on where my home was, but when I wanted to go home the closest they could get me was NJ... I had to dead head home w/o pay to NH when I went home.. (They started paying you milage again when you left home..)
Just be cautious dealing with recruiters, they can promise you the world.. Take it from me, I've jumped around a lot in my driving career because of companies not being able to get me home as promised!
