driving or working for tsa
Question:
ok i recently got contacted by the tsa or Trans safety authority to come to work for them as a screener . i also got accepted by the state to pay for my driving school driving pro's more money and i like to travel tsa pro's fed employment lets get crazy go nuts and tell chad what he should do yeah i know their is a way more famous chad on this board commute to airport would be roughly 90 minutes Answer: Describe the job more thoroughly. I, too, am thinking about working for the gov't. Answer: well its baisicly a baggage screener position. nothing fancy and i have been employred by uncle sam before in the USAF I geuss by asking this question here what i am asking is I was interested in hearing about driving otr and is it worth the $$$ since i am going to a private school and not a company funded cdl mill will i get more to start than i would in a swift, pam, roehl situation?? i know rhat the biggest part of my answer for that question is how hard to i look for a carrier Answer: No, absolutely not. The only advantage to a non-affiliated school is that you will not be financially obligated to the carrier. By all means, let the state pay for your CDL school; 85% of the people who become truck drivers don't last a full year and there's no sense in risking your own money or credit with that type of risk. BTW, NOBODY who gets involved in the business believes that he/she will be one of the 85% who won't last a year but 85% of those people are wrong. BOL Answer: When I sit down and add up all the money I pay in property tax, income tax, state tax, local tax, taxes on goods and services, I thought I already was working for the gov't. Seriously though, vash777, you need to weigh your income and long term advancement possibilities working at the airport. I know that starting pay for screeners is not all that great. How about the benefits? Have you looked into what truck driving jobs that you might hook with are there for you. Have you looked into the school? Can you drop by and ask questions such as which recruiters come by? The airport job may not be there next time should you refuse it where as the demand for drivers should as long as the government does not legally let "illegals" drive. Answer: Take the airport job use it as a stepping stone to a better job. OTR is a dead end and may have a negative effect on your resume concerning future employment. Answer: I have flown a lot, and still do. You think OTR is a dead end job. Go be a baggage screener. They really get the bottom of the barrel. I am pretty sure the folks that cannot pass a cdl mill go to the airport. Last time I flew was 2 weeks ago. Flew St. Louis to Detroit then Detroit to Atlanta then Atlanta to St. Louis. Each time I kept my lap top in my bag and kept my lighter in my pocket. Its like a game now. What can I get by the hacks at the screening center? As for pay, I have no idea what they earn. It can't be much. Also talk about a boring job. Screen a few thousand a day, each day every day. I would abortto the card board sign before I HAD to do that job. Heck Labor Ready would be my first stop on the way to apply.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS.) DHS is part of President Bush's pay band pay roll system and does not fall under the traditional General Service (GS), Wage Grade (WG), or Senior Executive Service (SES) pay system. The Federal Government is slowly doing away with the GS, WG, and SES pay systems and madating all Departments adopt the pay band system with pay for performance. Working for TSA is a taste of things to come. People that fail to perform face termination. Working for TSA can lead to other higher paying jobs within TSA, there are supervisory positions, law-enforcement positions, etc. If you have the opportunity to work for TSA you should try for the position. There are funds for college, and you're home every night. If you desire travel there are positions that require some travel as you move up. I drove from 1992 - 1996 after the electronics industry went south and technicians making $25 an hour were canned and fighting for jobs making $10 an hour. My uncles have driven trucks for as long as I can remember, about 1960 and made good money. However, in 1992 trucking companies paid .18 - .24 cents a mile. The best job I had was with Weathershield Transportation at .32 cent s amile and $10 a stop. At least one run the driver made more in delivery pay than driving pay, a run from Logan, UT to Los Angles with 20 stops. If you busted your butt and timed it just right you got off-loaded on Friday, if you hit traffic or snarls you had to lay over the weekend and finish delivering Monday. Your call, however, TSA does have a better prospect of leading to a secure future. Answer: thats what i am most excited about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Answer: you know its funny i found the screener website and it was great it was just like the trucking round table only without chad waving his paystubb around all the time but i have come to the conclusion that whatever you do its what you make of it and it looks like i am going to go with whatever happens first.
