Stevens or Prime?
Question:
Okay, here we go again. I know how you guys feel about Prime, but I haven't heard a lot about Stevens. I'm a 30 year old guy who's been considering truck driving for a while, but wasn't in a position to do it, until now. I live in the Atlanta, GA area. I'm looking for a company that frequents this area, in hopes of getting more home time. I know that I can expect 3 or 4 weeks out at a time, but I figure that if I can find a carrier that travels to Atlanta pretty often, then a night at home here and there would be nice. I'm used to long hours, and time away from home. I was a business owner for some time. My business went under in September, and now I have a corporate gig, that I can't stand, and the pay is mediocre at best. I know that there is a lot of opportunity in the trucking industry for the right person with the right attitude, and with the right company. Anyway, I've been offered a position with Prime, and with Stevens. Both are very similar in what they have to offer. It seems that Prime may pay a little better both in Company Driver, and in their lease program. Stevens seems to give you better equipment, and more bells and whistles, but lower pay. I know that both run a lot of miles out of and back to the Atlanta Metro area. If there is another better company that can runs a lot out of Atlanta, I would appreciate any input, positive or negative. Thanks. Answer: How 'bout neither. All the biggies and some not so have teminals in or near Atlanta. You can do better. BOL Answer: Which companies would be better? Keep in mind that I'm a newbie, so I need training. Six months ago I could have afforded to get my own training, but not so much now. THX. Answer: I wouldn't wish Stevens or Prime on anyone. You'll get screwed more then the lizzard doing 20 buck anything gose.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: Kind of a hard decision, like do I shoot myself in the right foot or the left foot. Either choice sucks. Answer: If your in the Atlanta area you may try Roehl. They have a terminal and do training down in Ellenwood! Prime or Stevens? You forgot CR England! Then at least the bottom three would have been covered anyway! Answer: Prime is simply a bad choice. Stevens will keep you out up to 6 weeks at a time. I think I would look real hard into Roehl or Millis. Both have a much better reputation. Answer: Primes Company Driver Divison is okay to drive with. I would stay away from the lease. They just can get you going in Reefer, Flatbed or train you in Tanker as a company driver. Answer: Neither.... Try one of these instead.... Answer: Thank you Rokki..... Answer: If you quit Stevens before your so called contract training is up and or you still owe them money for training, they will try to make it hard for you to go somewhere else. When your next employer tries to verify your work history with Stevens, they will send a nice little letter to the new company threating a lawsuit for the amount still owed to them for your training. The letter states that you are under a contract with Stevens and if you break that contract and go somewhere else, the new employer must reimburse Stevens all money owed on your training. The letter pretty much states don't hire our driver because we own him/her and we will sue you if you do. This is a letter from the director of Recruiting at Stevens. Some companys will not screw with it and some will tell Stevens what to do with the letter. Answer: Have heard alot of good about Millis. And they will train you down in Georgia, Cartersville I believe... Millis Answer: Comcar, another cheap company. What the heck, most of them are. Give Millis a try. They run alot out of Georgia for Miller brewing and some others. Might be your best chance at getting there more often. Try and remember. Most companies will route you every where but where you want to go. Answer: Schneider National. http://www.schneiderjobs.com/drive_inexperienced.html They have a terminal in Atlanta. Answer: I appreciate everyone's input. I'm definately going to check into Roehl. However, I don't think that Millis will train you if you don't have any experience will they? Anyway, I am going to check a few other avenues. The reason that I initially chose Prime or Stevens is that I see their trucks in my area a lot, and they will train you. I'm going to look into the other companies that were suggested. If anyone works for a company that comes to Atlanta a lot, please let me know. I figure that Atlanta is a hot spot for trucking to begin with. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
