Driver here. And I know alot of experienced drivers know of good places to eat while on the road other than the typical truck stops...ie...Pilot...TA....Petro..etc. I will of coarse be using a cooler for food, but will want the occasional hot meal.
I have been to a couple places I liked, but not sure if they are still around.
"R" Place...If memory serves me right this is in Morris Illinois near the I55 junction on I 80.
And a place called Shenandoah on I70 near the Pa state line. And i don't mind waffle or huddle house on occasion.
Anyway I'm looking for places with good food for reasonable prices while on the road. It seems to me that the big name truck stops offer the same crap for exuberant prices. I refuse to throw my money away to them.
Any info is appreciated everyone.....

You can eat well for cheaper then in the US. The exchange rate is about 1.35 now, but you still can get a deal. Not as much as when the money was at 1.70. I tend to go eat out every time I am in Canada. Just this week I went to Kesliers bar and grill. Took the wife out and parked the rig in a stip mall cose to the resteraunt. In all it cost me 33.00 Canadian to eat here. I had a full rack of ribs with hot wing app. Plus all the usual that comes with a meal. Wife had a sea food platter. Not bad for what about 25.00 US. It was a nice meal, not truck stop dinning. Even the truck stops there have some great food. Check them out. If you have a credit card use it. You will get freeexchange that way. You do not want to spend US money in Canada. They will skim 10% off the top and give you back Canadian. No credit card, no problem. Use your ATM or Comdata card and get money out in Canada. My ATM charget nothing exept the 2. fee. Check it out if you get up there. Also I 270 Il. exit 6b, Great little joint called the HEN HOUSE. has truck parking, not much, hold about 8 trucks. Great home cookin at a very fair price. Stop in for lunch, they have a special every day. They are not open 24/7. Also keep this in mind if you have to sleep some were and can not make it any further, just leave before the morning rush, we wouldn't want to over stay our welcome and cost them a sale. Pine Cone Resteraunts (one in Madison, WI off I90/94 at the Shell Truck Stop, another next to the Tiki Inn off I80 in IL just a little West of the I39 juntion, and a third in WI off I94 between Madison and Milwaukee at another Shell truck stop.)
Ryan Steak house/buffet. Many are located near large shopping centers or Wal Mart Super Centers or have truck parking of thier own.

The Pocono (Ambest)Truckstop on I80 in PA just before crossing into New Jersey.
