Question:
How long did it take for you veteran drivers to stop grinding gears.

Answer:
After a few months you stop grinding gears, for the most part.
Then you just 'rub' them occasionally
Once in a very great while you just stop and start over... or so I've heard

Answer:
You should stop grinding gear just before or after your final truck training day [graduation]. DMV do not really like people grinding gear. It showing that person that he / she do not really know how to drive.

Answer:
Like CapFusion said you should stop grinding gears before your DMV test using the double clutching technique, now floating the gears it should only take a month or two to stop grinding.
Answer:

As soon as you get in the truck with the auto trans.

Answer:

Answer:
I don't care how many years, you'll still be doing a little grinding from time to time.
I sill grind gears, even in my car once in a while.

Answer:
Most of the time, I noticed a person grinding the gear when s/he is in a hurry or thinking to fast and trying to do more than one task at that moment.

Answer:

I do not know of other DMV from other states but in California, not all DMV look for double clutching. The DMV in Sacramento [CDL DMV] do look for this but in the bay area, most do not. Interesting

Answer:
Ally-bam'r don't always either. Buddy took his test and "floated" a few times and nothing was said.
I think any would kinda frown on my float'n-two handed-thru the wheel-twin stick'n though....
Ya, even I catch a cog on occasion . We all will sometime.
BTW....even with two sticks you don't HAVE to stop and start over if you screw up!!

Answer:
Don't worry so much about grinding gears. Next year they are coming out with gears made of rubber!

Answer:
Rubber gears are going to be standard equipment only in SWIFT TRUCKS
Answer:
That's because Swift only gives their drivers the best equipment. Thank goodness I am going with Swift.
And AMEN to the "Sick and TIRED of the ANTI TRUCKING MOVEMENT on TRUCKNET" Anti truckers GET YOUR OWN BOARD!!!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Trespassers will be violated!"

Answer:
I was just kidding about SWIFT ( Stop Whining Im Finally Trucking )
Answer:

How about "Slow wagon in fast traffic"?
I can crack jokes about them....I drove for them, oh my gosh....a whole "decade" ago.. And that was back when the only way that you could go over 57 was to have a heavy load and roll downhill A true "marathon" was a Swift passing a JB Hunt or Schneider, or vice versa, or versa vice.....
As to gear grinding..... you'll probably never stop, at least not until we live in a "perfect world" It comes with the job.... I do it now and then, usually when something like a nimrod 4 wheeler does something stupid and distracts me and my rpm's drop too far......ugh. Drop it back down and go again.....
Yep it would be nice if the "anti-trucking naysayers, aka "UN-TRUTH, Inc" was to get its own board, but then again....their only reason for living would be gone. etc, etc....... Hey, that conjures up images of "lemmings marching to the sea" So I like what I do, you don't, too bad, get over it. Get on with your life, I am.
