Another thing to keep in mind when choosing a company to wor
Question:
What do they pull? 53' dry van? 53' Reefer? Tank? Flatbed? Most companies will start you out in either the reefer division or dry van division. If you hate sitting, then you probably won't like reefers. Grocery warehouses suck! Plain and simple. Be ready to spend about 6 hours, some times more, sometimes less waiting to be loaded or unloaded. The wait for dry vans (speaking from my personal experience), is usually much shorter. 9 times out of 10, I'm in and out of a place in 2 hours or less. Just something to keep in mind. Answer: Refer work certainly involves more waiting. But dry van waits can be long too. My experience: You're eigher hooking (or dropping) and don't have to wait at all -- or you have a live-load or live-unload. Some live-load/unloads can happen in less than 2 hours, but not very often. I'd expect 3-4 hours the majority of the time for live. But when you have a mix of live and pre or drop, the average waiting time is certainly less than refer work -- looking at a 50/50 mix, a 2 hour average is about right, I think. Answer: First Class U.S. Mail-----Pull in to unload, 15 minutes you are done. Back up to load, 15 minutes you are ready. No hassle or bull crap. Answer: Yea but we are all not that lucky to pull mail, you are definitlly not the norm. aman Answer: Hey Nocount, you pull for a union mail carrier? Just wondering what the benefits were, I pulled for a non union mail carrier for almost 3 years, best job in trucking in my opinion. Answer: I'd agree also on the 2 hours for dry van average.I have though set a couple hours waiting for a dock assignment, and then 4 hours in a door or more.Oh yea!! that was a food warehouse just like the reefer drives deal with.Likes been posted, food warehouses seem to be all the same, they want you to be there EXACTLY on time but can care less if you ever get unloaded!! Answer: OK I know this aint got didly to do with the thread, but I see that we got some experienced mail haulers in our midst.I need info, any info, all info. I am thinkin about gettin into the mail thing If I can find the route I want and if it will pay me comparable to what i am making now. Pleez give me all the details good-bad-ugly or am I just barking up the wrong tree.
