Which companies will hire you without school
Question:
Hey everyone, An O/O friend is teaching me to drive on weekends and I'll use his truck to take my cdl test. I'm just curious to find out if it will be harder to get hired with no "schooling" and if yes what companies would hire me. Thanks Answer: I don't know how much the lack of "formal"schooling will matter, provided you pass their road test, , but I'd be willing to bet that they are all going to make you go out with a trainer for a good bit after your orientation. Gary Answer: The major carriers will not hire you without going through a school and receiving a diploma. Most of their insurance companies require it.Even though you are "trained" they want to be sure you know the basics of driving. Answer: The undesirable and/or desperate Carriers will welcome you. The fact is you need either school or experience for employment. Answer: No trucking company will hire you without experience or from school. I went to truck school here in Cali in 2004 ,only the OTR companies will hire you. Because YOU are at their mercy. 6 weeks of training, OTR with a trainer NYC/Chicago/Boston/Miami/ATL and then you might come back home for a couple of days to barely see your family? Not cool. Ivey EnviroTech Services Start Up date: 3/1/06 Answer: Perhaps your friend could hire you! Answer: Try going to a union LTL company. Be prepared to start on the docks working casual, meaning when they need you they'll call you. And then work your way up. BOL Answer: Not likely unfortunetly,Drivers with experience will fill those slots. Answer: Thats for sure...... The companies that will hire you "without schooling" will no doubt offer you 22 to 25 cpm, but tell you there's lots of chrome on the truck.. And then they will screw you blind at every turn. Thats a fact! If you have any intention of actually working in this industry, you need to either go to an acceptable school, or go to work for a carrier who has a school or will put you in a school. Otherwise its probably gonna be a really rough ride later on. ...........it almost sounds like the O/O is setting you up for that 22 cpm special, already So I like what I do, you don't, too bad, get over it.
