Training for service?
Question:
Hi guys, I am considering signing on with CTL (Commercial Tanker Lines) in Bartow Florida, trading a year of service for my CDL. The job is short haul, running phosphates and such in central Florida. I get the impression that the work is somewhat nasty, but I am willing to work hard to accomplish my CDL and really can't afford the money schools are asking for. I have twin 4 year olds and am trying to avoid over the road as much as possible, and while I have seen other companies offer training, this is the only one I have seen doing short haul. The company says about $31,000 the first year, plus bonuses.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of situation, and what kind of pitfalls should I look out for?
BTW, my dad drove OTR for about 40 years, which will make me a second generation driver, even if I am starting late in life...

Answer:
Very fair deal.
The tanker experiance will be a great asset. In your area.
My first OTR job YEARS agot paid .36 a mile. I have never erned under that with many years of service. I took the tanker way. Then worked into the dump, then heavey haul, then normal flats then refers then vans. I like the vans.
Much easier. I like the tanks as well.202 N Main Street

Answer:
You will be working long hrs. 12+. And maybe weekends. Ask a lot of questions. Because if your family is important to you, then maybe trucking isn't the career for you. Ponder it over.Ivey EnviroTech Services
