Has/Does anyone do 7 on 7 off at Roehl Transport???
Question:
I have 5 yrs expe. I want to go back to trucking...But I want to be flexable now......Anyone have some answers....on Roehl..thanks..

Answer:
I used to be a fleet manager there...What do you want to know. Unlike the stereotype of dispatchers, I will tell you the TRUTH
I can tell you this, though. If you want to do 7/7, there will have to be another driver in your area willing to be on that fleet as well, because the 7/7 drivers hub out of terminals/drop yards. (Contrary to what others on here have said.) If you live too far away from a terminal, they feel you will already be tired when you get to work, and won't be able to deliver that 1,000-mile launch load on time.

Answer:
As a use to be FM there did you dispatch 7/7 drivers? I have always been a little curious of that program. The biggest question of course is miles. Do those drivers make enough miles in a 7 day period to justify the job?
I would think if a person has another form of income and they want to suppliment it the 7/7 plan would be a good deal. But I've been wrong once or twice before.

Answer:
No I didn't dispatch the 7/7 fleet, but I did train with the FM who does, so I ran that board for a good month before I was cut loose with my own board.. Most of those drivers either have another business going on or are semi-retired. The 7/7 drivers, as well as the 7/4-7/3's, get main priority on freight, to be sure to get good utilization of the equipment. They average anywhere from 2600-3200 miles per 7-day tour, with the first load being about 1,000 miles or more.
While Roehl is usually pretty good about getting their drivers home when they are supposed to (I ALWAYS made sure they were anyway), you are guaranteed to get home when you're supposed to because there will always be another driver waiting for that truck. You will either leave out on Wednesday's or Saturday's, and will always get home when you're supposed to, unless you run into a truck problem or an hours situation.

Answer:

If you have a partner and live in the same town (or close) even being 800 miles from a terminal you may be able to do 7/7!
Contrary to what some former FM's may say!

Answer:
You'll notice in my previous post I did say that unless there was a driver nearby who wanted to also be on 7/7, they would not allow a driver who lives that far away from a terminal/drop yard to be in that fleet. Nothing annoys me more than a driver who sees what he wants to see.
Sorry, It's been a long day...

Answer:

As with the other answers, ROEHL likes to have two or more drivers in the same area that want to run 7/7. That doesn't mean that you can't be the only one in your area for a while. I personally know several drivers who ran the 7/7 or 7/3-7/4 fleet in their areas alone until others signed on.
Regardless of the fleet you should decide on, other than national, you will run hard for the days you're out. Since you are in the area you're in, you shouldn't have any problem gertting home when you are supposed to.
You're very best answers will come from the people who are current. Call the recruiters and lay it out for them. They really do try to get you into the fleet you want.
Good luck!!

Answer:
I drove national - van for Roehl going out for 10 days (minimum) at a time. I thought about going the 7/7 route and even the 7/4/7/3 route but 2 things kept me from making the move.
One - If your scheduled to run, your scheduled to run. That means if your scheduled to run the weeks of Thanksgiving / Christmas / New Years / Easter / Memorial Day / 4th of July / Labor Day / Weddings / Anniversaries / Birthdays - you go. You have no option. When I ran National, I could usually schedule to be off those days.
Two - After having your own truck for awhile, you become possesive of that truck. It's yours, and NOBODY else drives it. You know every little thing about that truck. You maintain it properly. You clean and wash it regularly. It's yours.
When you come home, you leave most of your cloths / food / bedding / TV / CB / tools and things in the truck. I carried a full line of cloths, because you never knew what kind of weather you were going to run into.
When you drive 7/7 or 7/4/7/3 you have to remove your stuff from the truck and you should wash it if it's kept at a terminal. Sometimes I came home so tired and beat, that I would drop the trailer, park the truck and go home. I would come back the next day (I lived 8 miles from a terminal) and clean it up and take my dirty cloths home and take an inventory of what dry and canned food needed to be re-stocked. This would all take about 1 - 2 hours. You never know what partner you could get and this bothered me. Would he/she maintain the truck to the high level I did, of would they just drive it? Would they keep it clean as I did, or not?
I didn't want to take a chance, so I didn't go that route.

Answer:
Good points IBStrollin!
Never thought about the holiday side of it!
Sure is easy planning days off at home running solo!
Like you, I never wanted to "share" my truck!
Works for some and their happy, thats what counts!
I talked to a student who was trained by a 7/7 team.
One trainer said "the truck never used any oil!"
Goes with the next trainer and was told "you have to add a gallon every week!"

Answer:
HOw fast to roehl trucks go?
What brand(s)?
Where are the terminals/drop yards?

Answer:
65mph. If you are able to get up past 71 you lose 1/2 your bonus, coast downhill at 75+ and it's termination...
Internationals and Freightliners (fairly well maintained).
Terminals are Marshfield, Wi (corporate), Kaukauna, WI (shop and drop yard), Gary, IN, Ellenwood, GA, then drop yards at Bensalem, PA, Mogadore, OH, Dayton, OH, Richmond, VA, Darlington, SC, Garland, TX, E. St. Louis, IL, and Kansas City, KS. I think that's all of them.
Oh and forgot, Oak Creek, WI & Newport, MN also are drop yards.
