The emergency is over, now what?
Question:
FYI, once the emergency is over and you're on your way home from Florida, Louisana, or Texas: Yesterday afternoon I visited with a private not-for-hire carrier transporting freight for hire while RETURNING to Indiana from Florida. The lowboy had generators and a fuel truck with Class 3 flammable placards. The driver did not have a Hazmat endorsement, no shipping papers, was over on the 11 and 14 hour rule, no annual inspection on the truck or trailer, the trailer's registration was expired, and the carrier was a private not-for-hire carrier. The driver was placed OOS for the 11 and 14 hour rule violation and for failing to have a hazmat endorsement. The vehicle was cited for no annual inspection, improper placarding, no shipping paper, expired registration, and placed OOS for operating as a for-hire-carrier without a MC number. Drivers, before leaving the area to return home make sure you are legal, otherwise you or your company may end up paying penalties that meet or exceed the profits made while working the disaster area.
