geared up!
Question:
Looks like its going to happen! I start CDL school bright & early Monday morning. I passed my DOT physical & got all my other paperwork in order. I already got approved by Maverick's hiring committe & I'm on the waiting list for a position as a recruit driver. Waiting to hear back from Boyd, Kreilkamp & a few others. Hope I don't run over anybodie's foot!!!!Pittsburgh, PA Answer: Good luck with school. PGT and Path are probably a couple of other choices you could get on with. Other newbie from here, have gone those routes anyways. I am not sure how they are to work for though. Are you going to PIA for sure? Answer: Thanks Jammer! PIA it is, I got a pretty good feel for the place & its the easiest to get to from home. I'm looking at PGT, they pay based on load % & I don't have a clue how that translates into salary. I'm sure I'll meet one of their recuiters & get a better explanation.Pittsburgh, PA Answer: Stay away from percentage deals. You will never know what percentage your getting. If it's a percentage of the total or if some is skimmed off the top. One load might be paying you 30 cents per mile and the next 20 cents per mile. Also, you usually do not get paid for deadhead, empty, miles. If your empty miles add up alot you loose a ton of money. Look for companies that have what you want in bennies, home time etc. and have a good cent per mile. You will be alot better off. Answer: I was paid by the load and all I have to say is that short range loads paid well 100-200 mile radius (matters what you haul too) my company would show me the original invoice for what they we're being paid for the load and I would receive 25% of that (not to many companies do this). Matters what you haul as well I hauled a lot of flatbed that paid well I would do a run of palletts from Fresno, CA to Trona, CA about 200 miles a day (12hr) trip and I would make around $300 for that day but the next day I would take oranges about 50 miles and make $75 for the whole day I would spend the whole day waiting in line and being loaded and unloaded by the time I would get my return load I was out of hours and the next day maybe a $50 load and the next day a $200 load you get the idea. I would average around $600-$700 a week but that was with a lot of hours and a lot of free work the only way I would get paid was once the product was unloaded and the paperwork was signed if the paper work wasn't signed I didn't get paid, this lead to a lot of arguments when some receivers wouldn't sign because of damaged product, I would advise to stay away from this type of payment I like to get paid by the hour but will settle for by the mile. By the load payment is a raw deal on the drivers end and some companies still do this and will do it as long as the newbies keep pouring in I was suckered and many after me will be, nothing feels better than getting paid $250 to go 75 miles in one day but nothing feels worse than to be paid $100 for going 400 miles in 2 days. Research your options and good luck. Answer: As a Newbie anyway. Answer: Thats right. It's to easy to get screwed when your new. Asa matter of fact it's easy when you have experience also. Answer: Thats right. It's to easy to get screwed when your new. As a matter of fact it's easy when you have experience also. Answer: Yeah, if they pay percentage and are forced dispatch, forget about them. They can force you to deadhead to get your next load for free. You'll end up working a ton of hours, burning up your book, and not making squat. I won't recommend percentage pay to anyone; especially pulling a flatbed. I work for a percentage but I have a say in what freight I haul. I can choose to stay put and look for a backhaul or run back for a good paying reload. If I get hosed, it is mostly my fault. On top of that, you're only going to be communicating with your dispatcher, either via phone or qualcomm. You have no real way of knowing what the load actually pays; they can skim money off the top and you'll never know it. Answer: Not trying to start anything. You are starting CDL school and already approved to be a driver recruiter. Please focus on learning the driving and worry about recruiting later. Answer: Not trying to start anything but I believe you misread what was written. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
