Ever Thought about hauling cars?
Question:
I started trucking seventeen years ago..
Started out at a driving school, after the metal fab. shop I worked at went bankrupt, Trucks always interested me so off I went to school. I had the hardest time getting those V-8 Detroits and 13 speeds to work..ha..finally I graduated. Went right down to Fort Wayne,Indiana and went back to school..at North American Van Lines..A tough start but one many have taken, I did well there..humping furniture across the U.S. for a few years, My wife and I made pretty good money, but I had decided to make a change. Staying in the trucking business, just a different kind. We changed gears and got into Car-Hauling, geez I thought it was going to be easier..well there are no dish barrels to hump. I am still haulin cars..and love it..I recommend if your going to truck, look into car hauling. It is tough to "grasp" for the first year or two..so many combinations..but after you get used to your equipment, it all seems to "fall into place". We have made a good living "pullin" cars and been everywhere doing it. Trucking is a tough life..but you keep your nose clean, settle down for the long haul, decide to be a professional and drive like your mother is in the car in front of you..The rewards are good.
Hope this helps,

Answer:
Yup, decent money to be had. Friend down south bought used COE and 6 car trailer. Got involved with buddy of his and got line on good places for work. Does pretty well and gets him out of the shop(his other business).
Not alot of money was spent and no with a few miles under his belt I think he'll do okay. It's just growing/learning pains along the way.

Answer:

Nice site, nice to see something carhauling related only.

After I retired from another profession, and playing golf and off-shore fishing for two years, I decided to get back on the road hauling cars, I paid my way through college driving OTR.......the only problem I had is that I decided to go with "Swift Auto-Haul".........after attending their so-called orientation and on the LAST day, being informed that I must pay them $3500.00 for the privilege of learning to put cars on THEIR trailers..........I decided, "I might be dumb, but, I ain't stupid"............ended that career choice.
You know, being retired (I'm only 57), I wouldn't mind doing it, it's just that I really have no desire, nor will I stay out days at a time..........If I could find a company that ran regional (South East, I'm in Jacksonville) and I could take at least a week or two off every 8-weeks, I'd jump on it in a heartbeat.
Answer:
Ardmore,
Not sure if your still around, and sorry about my late response..
Anyway, that is kinda underhanded letting you know your responsible for the training at the last minute..hmm..maybe that was a good sign.
As far a regional auto transport..that shouldn't be any trouble..I think Waggoners has a terminal in Jacksonville, and others..geez they escape me...(old age), anyway go over to the Port, and see who is coming and going, there are several carriers pulling out of the Port of Jacksonville..it is a short haul car haulers dream.
Hope you find the job your looking for...
