Question:
Last nite on my way home I heard a drvr complain about getting shutdown for a logbook violation.
He was trying to use the split sleeper/drv combo....he mis-counted & had 1 too many drving hrs & 1hr short on sleeper time.
The drvr said that the trooper told him to stick to 5 & 5 if he wants to split.
I told the drvr that he may NOT want to take the trooper's advice since next mnth the H.O.S. will change pertainting to splits.
I then tried to explain to him what is about to happen & he(and Many others on the CB) had NOT heard anything about the new H.O.S. changing next mnth.
They All then tried explaining the CURRENT H.O.S. to me...I informed them that I am well aware of the CURRENT H.O.S.....but they obviously were the ones that needed to be educated on what is in store for next mnth.

I'm part of a new HOS test program at my company. They have a bunch of us running with the new 14-hour rule and then talk with planners/dispatchers
It's rumored among the suits that FMCSA will probably delay the actual implementation at the last moment, since companys haven't had enough time to cover folks in quartely safety meetings, etc. It's looks like a little fine tuning compared to last time, but this one puts the hammer on planners and load matchers, I think. FMCSA has a history of delaying implementation or enforcement. It's just a "suit" rumor....maybe not too different from CB rumors.... but I bet it happens No one's really talking about it enough for being so close to Oct 1....

Somebody asked me about it the other day...... My answer was simple: NO MORE SPLIT LOGGING! Its really a no-brainer. As it was explained to me, in order to split after 10/1....you have to have at least 8 hrs in the berth..... so why bother? Two more hours to complete a 10 hr break and you are back to 11/14 as long as you have the hours to do the 11.
I think its going to cause alot of companies to discover the meaning of "real efficiency" and "asset optimization/utilization".
Sure going to be interesting watching it happen.......
