The poor, put-upon, mistreated driver
Question:
If you are a newbie or haven't driven, you might understand this. However, if you have been out here over a year, you'll probably come up with some crybaby excuse to explain it away. Don't like that statement....TOO BAD! Item 1. Ran into some drivers from my company that got $140 plus court costs tickets for parking on ramp. They were complaining to me about it, but unfortunately for them, I happened to be going by the place they got them, on the day they got them. They were parked on the OFF ramp. Just in front of them was a truck stop that was half empty. Their excuse? "I didn't want to park in a gravel lot!" Tough crap, Henry, pay the fine and shut up! BTW-this particular truckstop never fills up. Item 2 Shipper has a dress code. (Required by OSHA) Hard soled shoes, or boots, long pants, long sleeved shirts, hard hat, safety glasses. Clutsenhymer the Great shows up in shorts, open toed sandals, and a muscle? shirt (if you could call the flab covered by it muscle). Was told he wouldn't be loaded until he met dress code. Promptly went thru the roof, foul language, obnoxious behaviour. Ended up getting himself and three other drivers for his company kicked out of shipper. Terrible, right? OSHA burns the shipper if they catch drivers not in required safety gear, but poor, pathetic, put upon drivers think this is simply horrible that they should be required to follow the rules and regulations. If you don't have the intelligence to understand that there are rules out there, and people who are serious about enforcing them, please shut up your whining and just pay the price. I'm not interested in hearing your crying. Answer: I dont blame the stearing wheel holders as much as I blame the company for having this type employee.there are immature a-holes in most type of work.but until they have to move on(get fired) they will try to get away with as much as they can.I think that is one of the major problems in trucking now, people that think they can do anything they want. Answer: After over 25 years in trucking, I have come up with many conclusions. One is, that many (so-call men) get into it because they think they can live their dream of living like an outlaw and dress like a pig and get paid for it! However, they’re the first to whine and cuss if they get treaded like the pigs they are, and get fined by cops doing their jobs, or kicked out of shipper and receivers docks for violating safety codes! Frankly, I wish we had the old badges like they did back in the so-called good old days! It was on your hat and it was a nice looking hat. Drivers were proud to wear that badge on their hat. And they dressed like it too! Look at some old pictures of drivers of yesteryears. Most wore a tie! Yes, they wear a shirt that could hold a tie on. In today’s world we would have to pin the tie on the earrings are nose rings because drivers dress like they're going to a chicken fight! If a driver wants to be treated like a professional, you must first act like a professional! Respect is earned not given! *********************************************** Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson Dedicated to solving high crimes and misdemeanors in the trucking industry. Answer: I know a guy just like the one you discribed. House slippers is what he wears. Urinates standing on the fuel tank anywhere. Answer: Somebody take your milk and leave a pee jug in its place today. --> Just razzing you there pal. Actually I agree with you 200% on this subject. Dress like a slob, get treated like a slob. It is no ones fault but your own. And I have told a few that over the years too. (and not just in trucking either) You know though. It is no wonder that trucking is not classified as a "skilled" labor. If you look at most of the other jobs listed under skilled labor and look how the majority of those individuals dress and act...well truck drivers have a way to go. At least the 20% or so who insist on living and acting like pigs. (Though pigs are actually clean intelligent animals so I guess that is unfair to the swine). While I would not go so far as to advocate a collared shirt and tie for daily wear on the truck, there is nothing wrong for the most part of wearing clean clothes in decent repair, unless as pointed out there is a dress code of some kind in the place you are going into. Of course the key words here are CLEAN and In Good Repair. Un-hemmed cut offs of any kind, pants or shirts with big holes in them, dirty clothes, etc all drive me crazy......and I wont even get into the nose, lip, tounge, and eye piercing bit because we would be here for the next two days. --> --> --> I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. _________________ RC Universe Answer: Got to tell you this one. This was my first impression of trucking at orientation. We all were sitting on a picnic table one day when this husband/wife team each weighing about 400 lbs each sits down. They, and there clothes were filthy. There teeth were rotten. We were eating at the time. These people stunk so bad my friend threw away his lunch, and the rest of us had to get up and leave. If I owned a company, I would not want these people representing my company. Don't they care? Answer: "Don't they care? " Sure they care. just what they want. Two people who will never be able to get a real job. Lifelong drivers, just what they want. "Caution: Door May Open" _________________ RC Universe Answer: It's coming! Standby for news.
