Information on Metal Transportation
Question:
I am consisdering going to work for Metal Transport and was wondering if there was anyone here that either dfrives for them or has driven for them. I've checked them out on SaferSys and have seen worse. I heard awile back there was a problem with drivers not getting paid on time but don't know how true that was. I know they have their problems but what company doesn't? Any information will be helpful. Thankyou in advance, Steve Answer: Never drove for them but did alot of checking a while back. I decided no way. To many problems. I also looked into Melton and ATS. ATS would be a first choice due to the different kinds of freight and experience you can get, drop decks, RGN, Heavy, Over Size etc. Melton would be a second choice. Answer: I drove for Melton for awhile. They are a good company.Have good equipment and will keep you busy. Most loads will be tarped. They pay you $40 to tarp, which isn't bad. They have flats and drop decks. You could do worse. Answer: I am limited as to who will hire me. They need to accept DUI's that are 3 1/2 years old. That is why I'm looking into either Metal or Presto. Looked at CRST but I don't like that $.10 cpm to start. Answer: If Metal will take you I would go. Answer: And thank the stars if their Insurence Carrier allows it. DUI or DUIs. Answer: Their graphics are gay... just like RABELAM's name spelled backwards. Answer: Pretty sad when you need to use anothers material. I wonder why some of you pitiful folks resort to innuendoes for some lame attempt at attention. Fatty Turnbuckle was a what again? Answer: I got an info pack from metal today. It looks good on paper but I'd still like to here from someone that has/does driven/drives for them. I talked to one of their drivers for about 20 min. the other day and he really sounded positive of them. They have treated him good for the last 4 years. I'm just kindof leary of the typical recruter B.S. if you know what i mean. Stuffs...you pull skateboard don't you? How much different is covered wagon from skateboard? I know the side kits and top bows need to be broken down for loading/unloading. Anything else alot different? Thanks, Steve Answer: Metals opened up a terminal in Lebanon Tn a few yrs ago with terrible results. after a yr they closed their doors. From what I saw of the equipment parked and heard from the guys that worked on them, it was all junk. I'm as serious as a heart attack here. I'm not sure if Metals has reorganized themselves yet or not, but I know they were on the verge of going out of business not too long ago. I believe I would look else where if you get my drift. Answer: I pull a drop deck RGN moving equipment but have pulled a skate board. All I could see as different is the side kits look like more work. But probably better than tarping every load. I've helped drivers put their kits on when I was running watermelons around Florida and it wasn't to hard if the pieces aren't bent up. Honestly, if Metal will take you, and you do need to be 100 percent positive they will, I would go there. Give them some time to get established and move on. The ones I've seen in Fl. were all Petes but they didn't look good. Answer: I know they run Pete 379's. The ones I've seen around CT. looked pretty good but they were going down the road at the time. Haven't had the chance to see them up close. That's one thing I'd like to check out before I fully commit to them. I don't havae to many options open to me at this point but I sure don't want to end up somewhere where I'm going to be in the shop more than turning miles. Steve Answer: Saw a post on another site that they are in big financial trouble, and are either bankrupting or going to have to reorganize. First thing to go in those deals is usually the maint budget. Might want to take a second look. Answer: the side kits look like more work Actually it's just the opposite all you have to do is sling the tarp over to the passenger side and take a few boards out, most steel loads are loaded with an overhead crane,it's pretty simple. Answer: [quote="stuffs"]the side kits look like more work Actually it's just the opposite, the side kits are easier, all you have to do is sling the tarp over to the passenger side because most of the steel loads are loaded with an overhead crane.
