Not sure if anyone here can help...here goes:
Seven years ago (June 1998) while on a business trip to Santa Barbara, California I received a DWI violation. I spent the night in jail and paid all required fines and court costs. After returning from this business trip I received an Order of Suspension from the state of California saying my privilege to operate a motor vehicle in California was suspended and would not be reinstated until I could provide them with proof of completion of a Drinking Driver Program. Since I was not planning on driving in the state of California, I chose not to attend this class. I recently contacted the DMV department in California and was told that because I never held a California drivers license I could have this Order of Suspension removed by completing the waver form they are in the process of sending me.
Currently I am seeking to obtain my CDL license here in the state of Michigan and am aware that a DUI on my driving record would not allow me to obtain this license. My question is will this seven year old DWI driving offense in California prevent me from obtaining a CDL license here in Michigan once California lifts the Order of Suspension?
Any input on this would be most helpful.

You need to find out more info from the DMV in Michigan regarding the DWI in Cali. The DMV from California will send you the forms to complete. If you have not received it within a few days, go to the CA DMV web site: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/forms.htm

If I remember right, i believe 7 years is about right for companies to look at you, but check with MI and CA regarding your license, and be sure to tell them it is for a commercial license, as it is sometimes different.

You'll have a hard time no matter how many years it's been, most companies won't touch a DUI/DWI with a 10 ft. pole,good luck.
