Well now I'm stuck I guess.
Question:
As I said in previous post(Sleeping in a rolling truck), I quit the company that financed my school. I sent them a letter explaining that I can not sleep in a truck with a team driver at the wheel, and told them I will pay the tuition back as agreed. From what I have been reading, this most likely will result in a red mark with my DAC report. The question. Will other companies even consider me now? I have no problem driving class A, just want to drive solo, and the company I worked for has no solo drivers. Opinions please. Answer: Shouldn't be a problem. I did the same thing with JB Hunt around 10 years ago. I paid them back and that was the end of it. I hired on to another company the following week. Time's fun when you're having flies - Kermit The Frog Answer: if any will depend on exactly how you quit. If you were under a load and just got out of the truck and went home then you are likely to end up with "Quit Under Dispatch" on your DAC. On the other hand if you decided to quit during hometime or while you were not under dispatch you will probably not have any marks on your DAC. If you have under one year experience you will more than likely have to go through training again with whatever company you hire on with. Since you have such a hard time sleeping in a rolling truck I would suggest that you carefully research your next company since many have gone to a 4 and 4 type trianing. (4 weeks with trainer, 4 weeks as a team with another new driver.) It is not overly uncommon for new drivers to quit their first driving job under a year. Training companies are used to this. However if you end up quitting the next company before you complete a year you will find that your oppurtunites become very limited. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: Any ideas on what company to apply to for solo, that doesn't take unfair advantage of newbies? I have a family to support. Answer: Though I am not 100% sure of their training programs. Willis Shaw Express (not sure of training program at all) Werner (either a 6 or 8 week program with trainier) Swift (rumour mill has it they are doing away with the 4 and 4 and going back to a straight 6 week program) I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: The Swift trainning program is at the option of the terminal, at least when I quit in June it was. But the 6 week program still has two weeks with a fellow newbie after the 6 weeks. My Terminal (Lathrop Ca.) was going to the 6/2 program as of June. Most of the trainers felt that the newbies wern`t getting enough training. (read that as more miles for the trainner). fishman Answer: He did ask for companies that may be fair to newbies. Not sure why Uturn even mentioned Swift or Werner but it may not matter. If your new you will have at the least 4 weeks of training riding with a trainer. That means sleeping in a rolling truck. Some companies you might try are Roehl, Shaeffer, Millis, Schneider. But you'll be training with most of them. SRT who used to be good but I have no idea any longer only require 3 weeks training. "Caution: Door May Open" He was really asking for companies that did not or may not have the 4 and 4 training cycles (given his problems sleeping in a moving truck) which Roehl does. There are a lot of "possibilites" in that type of question. As far as "fair" how fair is it for SNI to put newbies in an old worn out cab over, or how fair is it of Millis to require one year experience or attend their driving school, I think you see the point. Fair is such a relative term. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: Schneider just pays a little better. Otherwise they suck. Hope that answers your question UT. Besides just how fair is trucking to newbies anyway. Lots of promisses with little fulfillment. But since newbies must be newbies I prefere a slight step up as opposed to the very bottom. Aren't you supposed to be working. You know driving that Volvo. "Caution: Door May Open" Answer: Had to take a minute to think. I'm done for a while now. Actually UT your statement of being put in a old cabover is a little off base. There's a heck of alot worse things than that. If you judge a company by the truck you might drive then your lost anyway. Prime or England will give you a brand new one. Might as well go there if the truck is all that's important. I don't think it's important at all and irrelevant. "Caution: Door May Open" Answer: Any ideas on what company to apply to for solo, that doesn't take unfair advantage of newbies? No such Carrier in existence today. Mike Answer: Originally posted by Stuffs: Had to take a minute to think. I'm done for a while now. But then you knew that so quit yanking my chain unless you got a Scooby Snack for me. 18 oz....ice cold....with a high alcohol content should do it. I will always be a mutter trucker at heart. Answer: Heck, whats wrong with no sleep. Ya get the weekends to sleep dude. I knew I shoulduv stayed on the main road. "Dangit boy" Answer: From time to time when I am reviewing applications I see a remark (there is a place on the dac for this) that a driver left owing tuition money. I don't really care about that. I am trying to see if you are going to be SAFE with us. Did they give you a diploma? If they are holding it until payoff, that could be a problem. Danny Drummond Answer: Read my Wolding Post on Newbies forum, Just finished it H.O. Wolding. Good Luck. And I think they are right about the one quit deal. Choose wisely, you need to stick with the next one. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
