JB HUNT
Question:
Looking for some info on the Family Dollar account out of Marianna,Fl with JB.Recruiter told me that i'd just be rolling off freight at stores. Is this very physically demanding? Answer: Yes it is. Usually that 53' trailer is loaded nose to tail, floor to ceiling with anything and everything that is sold in the store. Piece counts will most likely near or above 1000, and some of the freight can be quite heavy and/or bulky. Personally, I would stay away from retail store hauling that uses rollers, unless you enjoy physical work. I've only done them a few times and I hated every minute of it each time. Answer: The Recruiter is stretching the truth, that's for sure. Retail delivery is 'real' work for any Carrier. Treat every Recruiters statements as you would a Politician or used car Saleman. The two worst loads you'll ever have are Retail and Tires. Answer: Before driving I worked on the loading docks at Target on the graveyard unloading 2-4 trucks a night, usually 1500-2000 pieces per trailer on the old school rollers, It was usually done by two guys which took an average of 2-3 hrs sometimes I had to unload them by myself which took 3-5 hrs the record for two people was an hour and a half we had a huge electronic stopwatch/clock on the wall which showed us how long it took, I am in shape and it kicked my @$$ and I hated every minute of it, it is hard and physical and very exhausting, dollar tree won't have the huge products that Target (50+ boxes of 200lb swimming pools and barbeques) had but sometimes the trucks with the little pieces were the worse, unless your in tip top shape and like working your @$$ off for little $$$ then go ahead, plus those sections of rollers are a pain their old you have to pick them up and set them up and connect them (which are very heavy 100lbs+) a lot of the time the rollers get stuck and lots of product falls off, and be prepared for having lots of boxes fall on your head they do not load that trailer in any order or anything, and Thunderbolt is right it is roof to floor and nose to tail as soon as you open that door boxes spew out everywhere they are loaded to the seams, leave the driving to you and the loading and unloading to the employees of the store. Hell Swift even has Wal-Mart and Target drop and hook accounts. JB Hunt sounds like a bad deal, a JB Hunt recruiter approached me about hauling for Orchard Supply Hardware in the west hauling doubles but I had to unload the trailers as well and I told him to take a hike I've been there and done that its no fun trust me my friend, but good luck in whatever decision you make. Answer: Thank you for those much needed responses on this particular account.I won't be making a mistake like this.A driver should just deliver freight to destination not having to load/unload.I just thought that rolling the freight off trailer was not that difficult. Thanks again averyone.By the way, anybody know of what i can do for a job in my area which is orlando,fl with 6 months experience? Answer: I just shot you a pm with a good job op but that was for Brooklyn, I read your post in the The Drivers RoundTable Didn't relize you were in Orlando. But I do no That a few weeks ago we were looking for drivers for a dedicated Coke A Cola accont. You would run a daycab from Orlando-Tampa-Daytona, just runing soda, botlles, etc... from botoling plat to botoling plant all day I think the pay was $16hr Home nights and weekends Answer: Sounds like Cowan. Talked to the ones that run from Twinsburg, OH to Houston, PA . Very good deal if that is what it is.SPEECH IS WORDS THAT THEY WILL BEND FREEDOM WITH THIER EXCEPTION" Metallica "Eye of the Beholder" Answer: It sounds that way, at least. Answer: It might be fun (and good experience) in small doses but you probably don't want to stick with it long-term. I did family dollar with another company---except without rollers; We had to handtruck the merchandise to the back of the trailer. You will work your little white a$$ off. Also the shopping plazas most family dollars are located in are not "truck friendly." Most rollers aren't worth a shyt; If they used conveyor belts then it would be a different story. So ask about transferability from account to acdount-----if you sign on with this account, how long/easy would it be to switch to regional or regular OTR? I think if hunt, werner etc. would pay higher for these accounts it might not be a bad gig. Say 40cpm AND $25 per stop. More later. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
