any training co's take someone with a 17 and a 20 over?
Question:
I got 2 nasty speeding tix. moving cross country last year. I was on the last day of my trip going from florida to seattle and got the 2 of them 4 hours apart. Now i see that Schnieder and Roehl won't take me with those. Those are the only tix. i've had in the last 3 years and i've never had any reckless or dui's, etc... Anybody know if i'll be able to get company training anywhere, and if not, anybody know if i'll be able to get hired with those if i arrange my own schooling? Answer: I have a 16 over from almost 3 years ago. Soon as that baby is gone many many doors open for me. untill then look for a small local carrier, and see what they will do. When I started, I was hauling grain locally, then quit that after a short time. One of the string of bad decisions I have made. If I had it too do over again I wouldnt have left, and in fact kind of miss it. I thought they where running me too hard and I got scared but never bothered talking to them about it. Hindsight is 20/20 For more more info on what I went through, search the archives for the posts of 1 MayberryTJ, yup thats me TJ Answer: Nationwide67, welcome to TruckNet! The following link contains results from the search function of the forums on "speeding tickets." Others have posted the same inquiry here over the years. You will find advice as well as razzing in the threads. You're sure to find useful information there though. It's not only the carriers which decline to hire CDL holders with speeding tickets. The Insurance carriers also have a say in this type of situation. They utilize a rating system to determine if their underwriters will place coverage on a driver or if the driver poses too high a risk factor for coverage: Speeding Ticket threads ****************************** Answer: thanks for the link...i can't get the search function to work on this site...don't know why...anyway...i see there was another post from when i asked before and only got one answer. i had another 'mild' speeding tkt. (i think it was like 8 over)..but i went to a 3 hour class and i guess because of that it doesn't show up on my dmv. cool. i've been calling around and had a couple of companies tell me that they would take me after the tix are a year old...so that's good...and covenant said they would take me if i put myself through school even before they are a year old. i'll get 'there' by the summer one way or another...until then...i'll keep being a courier around so. cal. life rolls on. Answer: "got the 2 of them 4 hours apart" I guess the first one didn't mean much, sheesh. If and when you manage to get a OTR driving job please don't drive a big truck the same way. There's good reason a person with those types of tickets can't find a job. "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of all who threaten it" Answer: nationwide67: i've never had any reckless or dui's... In some places(such as Oklahoma), anything over 16mph is considered RECKLESS.(seems like it used to be over 12mph was considered Reckless, but now I think it's 16mph or maybe it's 20mph.) What I'm trying to say is..... In some states Excessive Speeding IS considered to be RECKLESS. Answer: The first one meant i was unlucky...the second one meant i was unlucky and stupid. Really though, they were both speed traps at the bottom of hills...and that's a damn costly lesson i learned there... to really make sure i don't let the speeed accumilate going down hill. It's frustrating because they were both on 'barren' highways in the middle of nowhere...it's not like i was a maniac ripping through the center of town...i gave that up years ago...just after i learned to tie my shoes. All b.s. aside, i feel like the punishment is way more severe than the crime. I led myself into a couple of speed traps and now i may have to pay the price for years. Answer: it's not like i was a maniac ripping through the center of town...i gave that up years ago Frankly, my dear.... The Judge, the DMV, & the Insurance companies Don't give a Damn(about how or why you were speeding....all they know is that you WERE SPEEDING.) Answer: THey are all correct. You are out of luck finding a job, at least 99%, as a professional driver until those tickets drop from your record, and depending on the state your driver's liscense was from at the time those tickets were issued and the coviction made (you either appeared in court or aid the fine) you may be looking at up to 10 years before they totally disappear. Many states consider anything over 10 mph above the posted speed limit as automatic reckless driving. California for instance has fairly new laws that state you will lose your driving privledges for months or years for anything 15 over the posted limit (if I remember that correctly). In addition as Choclt pointed out even if your state of liscense doesn't consider it reckless driving trucking companies will for the simple fact that it is considered reckless driving had that been in a comercial motor vehicle, and they are going to have serious doubts about you being able to handle an 80,000 lb vehicle if you were unable to safely control an 3,000 lb vehicle, and the insurance companies, who pretty much dictate terms to the trucking companies, will be asking the same type of questions. Finally one thing that I have not seen mentioned here is that there is no longer any type of legal separation between what you do in a CMV and a private vehicle. I have a name not a number. I am not cheap but I am resonable. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
