school question
Question:
I have a question about my need to attend a cdl school , or if a company would require me to attend a school.
I have a class a cdl that I have had for 9 yrs. I worked for a utility company driving a digger truck pulling 45-50' poles on a pole trailer. I am now unemployed and am looking at driving otr. I have only been unemployed for the last 3 mo.'s I have never driven an otr tractor and trailer before but I know with some practice I can do it.
I am thinking of asking a friend that is an o/o if I can ride with him for a week and let me drive some.
Also what is a good company to start with that will be truthful in the home time
they promise ? I have a company in mind that I would like to work for after I have a year under my belt.
Thanks

Answer:
I dont know how many miles you drove the pole trailer on average. I started with school and my only real driving experience after that was a 28" and a 40 frameless end dump. No one questioned my experience and I went directly into a reefer outfit after that. But it was a small mom and pop outfit although larger companies had accepted my experience also.
You might want to figure out what companies you want to work for and then fill out their application. The trailers you pulled were certainly long enough to qualify. So to some it may not matter and to some it may.
Since you have a CDL you should not need to go to school, it would be a waste but may need a refresher course or to simply go out with an OTR trainer for a short time.
The only way I think you'll really know aside from some opinions is to contact companies and ask them/
