Companies that train/ other sites to check.
Question:
Hello everyone. I'm new to the postings. I know this has been posted before. I'm wanting to get into the OTR world. I've been reading alot of the posting here for awhile and there is alot of negetive things being said. There is got to be some good points to being a OTR driver. My question is what are some Companies that train and thier sites. I would really like to read up on them. Also is there any other truck sites to go to and what is their address. I am just looking for honest and positive answers. It would greatly be appreciated. (I am out of Delaware) Thank you for your time Jerry. Answer: Welcome aboard jerry, my advice would be go and talk to the drivers in the truck stop and get their advice on the company, take everything here with a grain of salt, check out www.classadrivers.com it is another good site that has a forum and lots more info for you to check out Training Compaines- sure there is more but its early Swift Transporation C.R England Prime Roehl Covenant Schneider National FFE Millis Transfer Answer: Well there you have it. A person who knows nothing about trucking or companies passing out names. What more could you ask for. Classadrivers does have alot of info and company links. Just remember they are a recruiting site and their moderators are recruiters. Just keep in mind that you are their meal ticket. I have been there many times and know you will not get honest information on many companies. I have pointed out facts about some of their wonderful companies only to find the post gone in short order. What you will get is the things the recruiter/Moderators want you to get. The truth alot of times doesn't fall into that catagory. Also what are your specifics for a driving job. It is easy to draw up a list of companies and have no clue if they meet your needs or not. It's not so easy matching specifics but it might make your chances of survival as a driver a little better. Answer: Thanks for the reply. I'm looking for insurance and benifits for my wife and I. I know the pay will be low for a while at least till I get some time in. I'm looking at staying out for awhile and getting in to see my kids once in awhile. My kids are grown and out on thier own. So the wife and I are looking to being over the road. So any advise would be greatly appricated. Thanks again Jerry Answer: Ain't it amazing, Stuffs? A guy named "futuretrucker" giving advice?! Everytime I think I've heard it all in this industry, a dude like this with 000000.00 verifiable miles under his belt shows up to dispense the pearls of wisdom he's heard from truckstops to newbies. Jeez. Notice he put Swift, CR England, and Prime at the top of his list!! Over in the O/O forum he's arguing with experienced O/O's about the benefits of CR England's lease-purchase. I think futuresucker would be more appropriate, don't you? Answer: HEY EnSoledad''' Give "futuretrucker" a break ,he is trying to help the new guy out. What are you doing to help except slam the guy ? Maybe Swift, CR England or Prime are bad compaines, let the guy check them out and find out how they are, maybe he might like one of those. Have you worked for those companies or are you just repeating from somebody else.? No wonder people don't like to ask any questions about compaines and all they get crap from you. Answer: Nothing like the blind leading the blind. I must have missed YOUR valuable contributution. I'll offer a valuable piece of advice to the Wannabies. Think twice before you believe anything good or bad in this forum. Answer: Its not crap. Its good advice. Some people can't seem to grasp the truth, even if its against their favor.Disclaimer:Pick too ugly to post at this time,LOL. Answer: thats right, everyone on here is correct and us newbies should just all listen to you guys and not take in account what the company drivers that WORK for these companies say, maybe you didnt make it with a company cause you cant follow rules and find it easier to do your own thing and if that suites you then best of luck, again you all seem to think you are the best think since slice bread and you are not even close and i'm not either, but i do debate to make sure what i hear is right, and if you dont like it to damm bad Answer: Futuretrucker thank you for the replay. I put a question on here for some honest no BS replay. It seems to me everyone else just wants to bash on people. I've read and looking over post for awhile and the BS seems to get worse. Can anyone else please give some good replies. I myself and more then likely others are reading these post would really like honest answers with out all the BS. There has got to be some you guys like about truckin. Thanks once again Jerry Answer: Old Dominion trains out of the larger terminals such as Carlisle. They do run teams if your not afraid of doubles. I know they have a Delaware terminal but I think it's a smaller one. Answer: Thanks for the info. I had to go look and it didn't surprise me to see it. Well if your going to ask questions you should shutup and listen instead claiming you know more because you've talked to some one at truck stop. Not many people that you approach about their job will tell you their a loser for working there. But yes, when you ask a question you should accept and listen to the answers. Oh well, this thread isn't about future whatever it's about a guy who politely asked a question. I have a slight delima now that I did not use to have. That is what companies to recomend. Having experienced the constant line of BS most if not all companies dish out it is very hard to recomend any company. Whether anyone believes it or not, most companies are going to lie to you in more than one way to get you in their door. It does not get any better with experience. So it will be a crap shoot at best. Because of their reputations and the many many people who have come here with their first hand knowledge it is easy to take a few off the list. Companies like Swift, Prime, CR England, Covenant and FFE are ones I would not touch for any money. With that said and in looking at long haul companies I would talk to SRT (Southern Ref. Transport), Old Dominion (except that your wife can't go), Comcar companies (Willis Shaw), Schneider dedicated Glass (maybe not in your area but valuable experience if so.), and the ever unpopular US EXpress I wouldn't stay with any of them past a year. But they may be good for training and longer runs. I'll link the ones I feel are better. http://www.southernref.com/ SRT http://www.willisshaw.com/index.htm Willis Shaw http://www.odfl.com/ Old Dominion, but probably no wife ride alongs. That by the way is simply an opinion and doesn't mean squat. Answer: Stuffs, your right about OD with the wife as a rider. I was thinking as a husband/wife team which I believe they do allow. Answer: No, you should do actual research instead of relying on others asking "where should I go to lease on - oh BTW I have no experience" I put in 8 1/2 years as a company driver, and not only did I manage to support a family of four on a single income, but I also managed to buy a house and my own truck. As far as jwr235's post, I would suggest you avoid the company training, and go to a driving school outright. Not only are you getting your training, but you aren't tied to a particular company. If you find that driving isn't your cup of tea, they will sock you for the training (at the price they feel it was worth). Whereas, if you go to a good driving school, you can finance the training, and many companies will reimburse you for it as long as you are employed by them. Most technical colleges have some sort of CDL training. That is where I would look first. Answer: Thanks for all the replies. Some time or another people on here can get good and honest answers without someone putting others down. As for the training I'm looking for company because I can't afford school own my own. How about Schnieder. I read and heard they have a good training program. I don't mind doing a year. Thank You Jerry. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
