Use your map and don't panic.
Question:
This lady (red shirt between two guys looking at trailer top pic) driver found herself on the wrong road going the wrong way and tried to turn around in a neighborhood gas station. Must of been in a panic. She could have got out by using a different exit from the place that goes onto a side road. She also didn't use her map because the little two lane road she was on comes out on I10 at the other end. She was lucky because some local boys grabbed their fork lifts and got her out. Unfortunatly for her she already told the company and a tow truck was on the way. She gots some plaining to do. I forgot to add. She'll be a little shy on cash also. Not sure what it was for but she did get a ticket. Answer: See she hooked to one of Starnes trailers. The ones with SWIFT remind you to SWING WIDE ITS A F TRAILER.. She must be a new driver, most would have just gave her tons of gas and screwed the tires up, yet not get stuck. If you get on the wrong road. Just sit back and chill. You will find a place ti turn around. May take 20 miles, but you will find one.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: The way the trailer sat on the drives rubber it wasn't going any where. Wouldn't matter if you were a newbie or had 30 years experience. You would be stuck. The trailer was loaded. You can see a bit of wrinkle on the side where the trailer is sitting on the drive. Them drives weren't moving. But it could have been easily avoided with a look at her map. Answer: Well, she left the tree standing!!! Answer: Well, maybe. I was attempting to make a drop at a coal mining company one day and got on the wrong road. It was two lanes of black top but no shoulder and nothing but brush as far as I could see. I figure it's no big deal and that the coal yard was at the end of the road. Two and a half miles later I come to a locked gate. About that time dispatch calls to see how my day is going so I informed them that I had made a bad move and had to back up a bit. You know how long it takes to back up two and a half miles even on the high side? Some 15 or 20 minutes later, dispatch calls back. Dispatch about dropped the phone when I said I was still backing up. It is pretty sad though that you see this happening all to often sometimes with tragic results. Drivers attempting to turn a 53' in a space that would be hard for a pup. Answer: It's Swift, what do you expect? Answer: Now had she gone in that first driveway and "looped" around she might have made it! It look like she might have made her cut into the turn too soon to. Where was this at? Answer: You are allowed and I have made a wrong turn. You are allowed to back up like 2.5 miles. This is better done about 2am when you are trying to get to the ship/rec to sleep for the night. Nothing like playing on the back roads and making a wrong turn. I would rather see a driver back up 5 miles of curves over 3 hours then try to fit under the 12' 6" rail over pass. It happens. I have spend 1 hour trying to get out of a drive way. I sure didn't want to hurt the grass and the ditch looked painfull. I got in easy. No cars. About 8am TONS of cars. I will go get ladies out of the tanning shop If I have to. I got chit to do its the freight business, got to go got to got.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: Its that pesky PANIC that created the situation, not the fact that she got lost. I've been lost so many times I just count it as part of the Big Adventure. And later or, when Dispatch actually SENDS me to a location where I've previously gotten lost, it's a bonus! I already KNOW the place. But when it happens, DO NOT PANIC!... Don't try to turn around in the first place you see, unless, of course, it's a HUGE lot. Take it slow, keep your eyes open for opportunities. Maybe there's a warehouse just down the road, Maybe there's a way to go around the block... I have found WalMart on one of my expeditions into the unknown... Is that cool enough? If it wasn't for that time getting lost, I would have missed the cool deal I got on a stereo/CD player/tape player... Closeout sale, $40.00. Yeah.... When tempted to panic, set it aside. There will be plenty of time for that later. Like while you're waiting for the tow truck, or if you can maintain control of your fear and handle things properly, after delivery. But then you won't need to panic. So just don't do it. Answer: Should have swung wider and a little more right, took a little of the shoulder (looked ok), rolled out on the turn hugged the fog line, before she cut back...........and Oh, by the way WATCHED HER MIRRORS and known where her trailer tandems where at, BEFORE she fell in the ditch. Too many newbies refuse to use their mirrors and keep track of their trailer. I call it the Toyota syndrome.'' Answer: I've been lost soooooooooooo many times in the first couple of years I was OTR. Most of those times were due to bad directions, the rest due to me 'panicing'. DO NOT PANIC!!! Like others have said, there's ALWAYS a place to turn around down the road.........whether it be 1/2 a mile or 30 miles.........there's ALWAYS a place to turn around! One thing that I did to reduce my 'lost time', was to get a micro-cassette recorder. I have mine set up to record off the external speaker on my cell phone. This works GREAT! If you don't have an external speaker, or you get your directions off a QualCom, just click the 'record' button and repeat whatever the person on the other end (or from what ya read off the QualCom). It's better to have them tell ya how to get there before the local law shows up. Answer: Looks to me like someone didn't use common sense. imexperiance strikes again. Answer: It amazes me how many stupid drivers are always in a rush, like they are driving an ambulance or something. It is just freight, if it was that important, let 'em put it on a plane. I live by a quote: Be quick, but never hurry John Wooden Answer: I've gotten lost my share of times, the first place I look for is a Firehouse. Why? Well, for starters there's generally enough room in the yard to get turned around, and as a bonus Firemen know how to get anywhere... just ask them. -Nick Answer: Well Swiftey got what they didn't pay for.....a ..25/mile driver Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
