Line Haul...
Question:
Is there such a beast as day-time line-haul? Every company I've inquired about it do those gigs during the Darktime hours when I'm in dreamland.
I'm new to the trucking world, have had my CDL since last August, and have worked sporadically since then, but one thing I'm sure will drive me bonkers in a hurry is LTL work--but in my part of Massachusetts, that's about all there is (or at least all I can seem to find).

Answer:

Linehaul operates 24/7 as does OTR TL. If you want a daytime job other
than "local" your choices are limited.
Answer:
Daytime linehaul???? You got enough seniority?

Answer:
Hard to line haul freight that isn't picked up yet.
Many of the places that ship/rec freight are open during the day time.
The freight is picked up day time. Unloaded and reloaded (breaking the trailer) in the evenind and very early am.
Now, there is daytime runs, just have to be with the company for like 20 years.
I happen to like the night stuff. That gives me my days time incase I need to do something.202 N Main Street

Where in Ma. do you live? There are jobs out there that you might be interested in?
I used to live in NH and have a few ideas in mind, but am not sure as to what it is exactly you are looking for.
Are you saying you want ot be home every night and just do a run "out and back" or are you saying you don't want to unload trailers and just do drop and hook?
Do you want to stay regional, or run all over, and be home on weekends?
There are pleanty of trailer dumps, end dumps, and cement (hopper bottoms) running around Ma. that run pretty much local where you are home a lot but you are working long hours cause you work till the run or "circle" is done. You might not make it home every night
You wanna drive a dump truck, live bed, flat / step deck, Low boy / RGN, van, reefer, ????
Answer:

Another "depends" on who you work for. Small regional carriers yes,Yellow,
Roadway,ABF "system" and "casuals" lack that seniority. Freight moves 24/7.
Answer:
Rab, you are very right, only took me about 6 months.
Yet the pay is not their. Only earn like 1400 week and home every day.
No starting at a % right at full rate. The time I had to do P/D was a real pain in the (edited). I got the run because I will run at night.
That simple. I run at night so got the line haul gig. The other folks didn't want it. I was the extra on the extra board. When the bid came up I bid it. I also got it for one year.
Leave that P/D for folks that like it. It is a talent they have. nSome will put fists up to get the freight off. If that dosn't work after 10 mis dispatcher says kick it off in the parking lot. We are banned from WalGreens.
Pays good and I like it.202 N Main Street

Answer:

Gonzo, I'm out of Randolph, 15mi south of Boston, and near Quincy and Braintree.
The big thing is, I want to be home at night, sleep in my own bed, and have that extra time at the end of the day to hop on the bike and hit the trails before the damn sun goes down.
I'm not a big unloader. I'm in shape yet would prefer to avoid the aggrevation. Dump truck work would be very cool; as would simple drop and hook. I would really enjoy the longer runs, like something heading up into Maine, NH, Vermont, Upstate NY, and just head home at the end of the day. Fifteen or more stops a day would drive me bonkers. But I have to find something fast since I'm out of work and down to my last few hundred bucks--it is panic situation time

Answer:

Hmmm...judgeing by your wants, needs and requirements I would suggest another line of work. Nobody starts at the "top" in "Trucking".

Wait till he see how much dump truck work is at night.202 N Main Street

You seem to be one of those dream truck drivers. You are going to find a job work for a month or two and then you are going to quit and start this crap all over again.

Answer:

Wait till he realizes that "days" are sun up to set.
Answer:
Daytrader if you don't mind me asking who do you drive for?

Answer:
Frey transport. 1 of many hundreds that pay the same. All in line with LTL/Line haul work.
My own wife earns more then me now. I have many years experiance. She has a very short time. Yet she gets over 20 a hour and 1.05 a loaded mile company driver pay.
Yet, many OTR fight for .40 a mile.
Here company has had to go as far to have a school to get drivers.
Think about that.
One guy gose to a OTR school and get .34 a mile the other gose to a school and get 1.05 a mile with hourly pay.
We have a super large pay area in our industry.202 N Main Street
