A few things to think about
Question:
First thing first, get off the OTR thing as fast as you can. Why? Because it will remove you from the big company mess at the main terminal. You want to be where there is only a few drivers doing what you do. Regional or dedicated. You will make just as much money, more often than not, more, and because you will be a small group of drivers, you will be treated better. Better and more home time. Second thing is you only want to work for a company that has a major terminal close to where you live, within a 100 miles or so. Why? So you can get home more often. If you live on the east coast and the only terminal close to you is in CO you will never see you house for weeks at a time. Third never work for a company that has a policy that requires you to stay out on the road for any length of time before going home be it 14,21,30, days. Add a least 2 to 6 days to that total and you will know how much time you’ll have to spend on the road. With most if you don’t take that time off in that month you will lose that time off. Most will not send you home until their required time for you to be out is meet. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reasons to quit a company as fast as you can Getting your pay check wrong ever week due to lousy bookkeeping or office staff problems. Not getting you home when you need to be there. Of course within reason, if they miss your home time once ever couple of months or so, is to be understood, things happen. However if you have to fight about it ever time, then its time to move on. They will not fix problems or they are slow to fix things wrong with you truck. Yes there or more things that will make it better or worse for you out on the road, but maybe this will give you a better start out here. Answer: To add my 4 cents worth... You forgot to mention that you should get off the road if you are a homebody, can't get the nipple out of your mouth, can't leave wife alone fearing she'll do your neighbor and just can't hang out here. Some of us enjoy this job. You need to mention that was your words and that it was your opinion. Remember, it's not everyones opinion. Where did your clothes come from? Your porn mags? Food? You brought it and you're not proud of it?? That's a pity.Sweet Whiskey Answer: Well said. I was just going to utter (well type) loser, but you, as always, offer a more elegant posting, than I. The nipple part does seem to fit. -JHappy Dwellers Society Company Driver Division Answer: Sweet, Pretty much well said. Except, if you do not want to do it. DONT!202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: If you expect to be fairly compensated for your time, forget OTR trucking. Answer: The "pity" falls where it belongs. On the Delusional that refuse to face facts concerning the vocation. Answer: And here's a fine example as to why as inflation continues to rise every year, your hourly pay remains the same or decreases.... like the saying goes, "there's a sucker born every minute". And some never catch on. Answer: Aren't the newbies entiled to helpful information in a forum that is dedicated to them? Just wondering why "losers" and forgieners even bother to come here. There is a Canadian TN I saw, but they probally don't want the drivel either. SW very nice post. This started out as a useful thread then the losers appeared. Answer: yes, thats why some people point out the negitives,so if they do proceed with it,they won't be disappointed once they find out they don't really get paid for all the miles they drive and they will spend a lot of time waiting around for free. I relise it makes the chumps who put up with such crap look like chumps when people post such infomation,oh well I failed at trucking, failed to see any reason to work so much for so little Answer: I thought I left out of my post if trucking was good or bad. Of course it is my opinion of a few things. Is there more or less things I could have said, goes without saying. The few things I pointed out are the most complaints I hear out on the road. "I cant get hometime." "They dont pay me and claim they lost the paper work and it will take them X number of weeks before I get my money". "Its been X number of weeks and they still havent fixed whats wrong with the truck they say I have to wait until I get to a main terminal". Answer: That's what they get. What have you contributed to the topic except your version of drivel? It appears you're confused as to who posted what. Answer: Were else will you be more compensated for your time?202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: Can't get home? The big bad large carriers have aiplane tickets and rental cars. Not paid on the same day. They direct deposit. Medical insurance is a fraction of what it would cost any other time. That 401k is yours. Take it with you. Knowinf what is going on how it works. No brown nosing. I like that. I sure do not want to have to play a game. Give me a load and that is it. I sure do not want to have to play the politics of a small carrier. You them get to be seen as the guy that will do it the others will not. The one time you do not do it. You are out and back at the bottom.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: Yes, you are correct Okie, there is a TNCanada & you're also right that you don't see much sarcasm there either, likely because the majority seem to have a better grasp on reality unlike some of our southern neighbors. Like the ol' chicken hauler once said, "americans don't get irony". There's always several postings on the RT every week, usually from the same ppl who rave about "how great trking is" to the newbies here, bytch about "how they got screwed over by their co. dispatch" over there. Answer: ironic isn't it I couldn't find the happy truckers when I would be stuck in traffic. i would pickup my CB mike and say I was enjoying my career as a tractor trailer driver and people would call me mean names If i said the joy of the open road while sitting in traffic, they would call me mean names I saw mostly hate and discontent while driving a truck, they hated the northeast, they hated ohio, they hated big cities, they hated truckstops, they hated grocery warehouses or anyother place that delayed them, yet claim to love their jobs ironic isn't it Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
