McElroy Truck Lines
Question:
We had a recruiter from McElroy Truck Lines come by school today. The pay and benefits sound good. Does anyone know anything about them or have you worked for them. Thanks Answer: Not much to be found on McElroy. 47 posts, Mc Elroy Answer: I've never worked for McElroy but have talked to quite a few of the drivers. Not one has had anything bad to say. That says a lot to me. They are out of Cuba, Alabama. Red Macks pulling flatbeds. If I remember correctly all sliding tandems. Answer: I hired on as an experienced driver with McElroy. I went through their orientation, then out on the road with one of their trainers. He wasn't much of a trainer, though. When he wasn't talking trash to one of his girlfriends or with one of his "boys", he was asleep most of the time I was driving. Orientation is two weeks. Mostly paperwork and videos the first week, with some securing and tarping. The second week, you drive on the yard some and on the road some and learn more about securing the cargo. If you're straight out of school, you will go out with a trainer for 4 weeks, then to their main terminal for a driving test. They originally told me I would be with the trainer for only a week, to familiarize myself more with their loads and securement. On the second day out, they qualcommed me that it would be extended to 4 weeks and my pay was going to be 4 cpm less than they originally told me, because they couldn't verify one of my past employers. I stepped out of the truck 40 miles later and sent the trainer on his way, then caught a bus home and went back to work for the company I'd left. Other than that, they're a good company. You will drive mostly SE regional and you will get home every weekend. You'll be expected to leave Sunday with the load you picked up Friday and deliver it Monday morning. Then you'll be routed to your next load, which will be delivered Tuesday morning, and so on until Friday again, when you'll get a load that routes you back through home. Their terminal, in Cuba, AL is great, they even have a Chapel there. The McElroys are a very Christian family. The one in Pleasant Hill isn't quite as nice, but it's okay. Hope this helps.Wayne Answer: thanks for the info. I faxed my application off to them and 6 others last night....so I'll wait and see who's interested.
