What do you think my chances are..........
Question:
I am suppose to go through commerial truck driving school here where I live at in Georgia at one of the Techincal colleges, all paid for with a Hope Grant that anyone who is a resident of the state can get. this is a 240hr. 8 week course. Anyway I am wondering what my chances are as far as getting hired on with a company after school if I have been out for work for over 5 years but I have been on SSD due to a injury and had to have surgery. I have all of my 1099's to show that I have been on this. I also have another problem that seemed to be worrying me alot and that is because I two misdemeanors on my criminal record that is 5 years old but NO felonies. I do have a DUI but it is 19 year sold on my driving record. I can pass a Dot phyiscal with no problem that I know of and I have checked with my doctor who has released me for work with no limitations. so I am wondering if I am going to have problems getting hired and could anyone advise me what my chances are. Answer: The best way to answer that is just to get on the phone with some companies and ask. Some may be okay with the 5 yrs. off, for example, others may not. It depends on the company. Answer: Regulations require you to document your past, working and not working. So long as you can account for the time, I'd imagine it is up to the particular company as to their own internal policies. You won't be allowed to go to Canada, so any company that runs there regularly might have a problem with you. Answer: Well, you didn't say what the SSD was for, and that might be important. Also, you didn't say what the 2 misdemeanors were for. This may also be important. If they were drug posession crimes, you probably don't stand much of a chance, theft may also get you disqualified from many companies. As far as the DWI goes, it will be a factor, but not a huge one. As things stand today, this won't keep you out of Canada, and chances are your 2 misdemeanors won't either. It may cause you a long delay, though, but as of late last year, Canada stopped using DWI's over 10 years old as being disqualifiers for entrance to the country. Regardless of what you were convicted of, your past will certainly disqualify you from quite a few companies, but not all. Regardless, you need to show that you are not the person you used to be. Eventually, somebody will hire you. Answer: I was on SSD because of lower back injury from my job and I later had a left hip surgery. My 2 misdemeanors was for simple battery F/ V, which is a long story but please believe me I was not the beater but rather the victim, I was only trying to protect myself from being beat on anymore from a woman who was I believe must have been the one toughest meanest women I think I had ever ran up on ever. Anyway like i said it is a long story. And she had been arrested for the same thing for beating on me at prior date. And also my hip operation I believe was due to that fact that I had no hip left which I think she had damage from jumping on me during one of her episodes of beatings and I had to wrestle her down to the floor and attempt to keep her from beating me anymore and I think that was when I did so much damage to my hip, however this was not found out or the surgery until after my court date. But the main thing that is important is that I finally got out of there and away from her even though I had to pay for trying to defending myself even though the court did not see it that way. I was fined 500.00 dollars and put on 3 years unsupervised probation for both offenses and attended a anger management class. My probation which was over 2 years ago and there were no other orders of the court. And that about it,....I made mistake by choosing to marry the wrong woman without really getting to know her more than I thought i did but I guess anybody can put on a front as I learned oh so well. Also I spent over 80 thousand dollars in just the 8 month of marriage trying to show and give to her and her two wonderful girls a new home and new clothes and so many other things that they had not been able to afford out of my love for her and for them. Like i said it is a long story of both mental and phyiscal abuse from this woman in such a short time. But thanks for your help anyway. Answer: On SSD? Lower back injury? Sorry to say, but you just raised two huge red flags, both of which will disqualify you faster than any DUI ever would. Many companies won't touch anyone who's had a claim for a "bad" back (no matter what the reason) and rightly or wrongly most will view your time on SSD as "milking" the system. Answer: I have a battery also. Hasn't been a problem. It was not domestic and I explain what happened. I always let them know in advance. Because it is on my record. I know they will find it so I figure better tell them about it.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: Yeah, you definately picked the wrong one. But i won't brow-beat you on that one; I know of men who have had the exact thing happen them-----you're screwed either way because most courts are going to be biased towards the woman. Anyways, relax about the job situation; i know of several companies that will hire you no problem. Then, after you get like a year experience you can move on to bigger and better things. I have to go away now, but after you get your licence and need job leads, just holler. Answer: Chad I see you have a new picture up,,,, is that the hoped for results after your sex change???? Answer: That picture is not very good. I hope that is chad after his change. Other wise that is one bad looking woman.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: Wuzzy has that right. A back injury means many will frown on you. The way workmans comp is now days they would frown real hard on it. Mix that with a couple Misd's and it's not looking good for you to get a good driving job. Some scum companies will take anyone. Thats because the job isn't all that great. If it was me I would take that loan/grant and get an education that will get you a whole lot better future. If you dont know what type of job you really want you can go to your local job office and take some job aptitude tests that can lead you in the right direction. If there are other jobs you have an interest in now might be a good time to look into them. The last thing you want to listen to is company and school recruiters. To many of them are simply full of themselves and will lead you in the wrong direction. There have been many new posters come on here and say they were turned down for jobs even after a company said they qualified. Nothing worse than learning after the fact that the recruiters were full of crap. So you might be alot smarter to look at all your options and not just focus on driving. Answer: I have a "bad" back injury. I injure my back in 1985 -- 2 slipped disk T-3 and T-4 this is located between my shoulder baldes. I started driving 5 months after the injury. As long as your Doctor signed a release too work, which some companies will require and pass the DOT physical you will be hire for work. I had re-injured my back in 11/02 while I was home. I was sleeping and rolled over into another position in my bed when I heard this crunching and cracking in my back. Yes in the same location of the original injury. I took a medical leave from my job for 5 months and when the Doctor release me too go back too work I had to change jobs because the one I was working for (a moving company) require alot of physical labor. My current employer is a subsidary of US Xpress a major company and they had my Doctor faxed them a release stating NO LIMITATIONS for work. Don't sweat the misdemeanors just make sure you list the most recent. Some companies may require to list all. I have seen applications stating for 5 years, 10 years, or ever. Be sure you read the application carefully. As far as Canada entry, it is DWI/DUI in the last 10 years. My family, Father, Sister's and children are going to Calgary in July. Hubby can't go because he has a DWI that is 4 years old. I had check with the Canadian Consulate in Detroit last month. Go to school and put in your applications.
