Flatbedding
Question:
I am thinking of switching to another flatbed company, I work for one now and I don't need to hear how tough and dirty and rough flatbedding is, believe you me I know, I am just looking at some companies and trying to find a decent one there aren't too many local ones in my area (Central California) so I am looking at the majors such as Swift, Arrow, and MAT Transportation. That is all I could find that would hire me in my area, Prime, Schneider, and Werner said they don't hire Flatbed in my area so does anyone have any suggestions on any companies I could try in my area or that Hire in my area, and can anyone tell me about Swift, Arrow, or MAT how are they to work for whats the equipment like, pay, miles, hometimes, loads, deadhead, etc. I have talked to most of the recruiters but I assume 95% of what they tell me is a steaming load, (which I know it is) remember I am 21 so that narrows down the companies even more, I have only a year experience as well so that narrows them down too haha, I have been doing a lot of sitting a lot lately making no money the company I am at now doesn't even have detention pay or give you extra for drops or tarping or netting or anything so basically I am working for free, big surprise blah blah blah. Any sort of help is really appreciated and I am also looking to bust into the tanker realm as well.

Answer:
There's gotta be a few medium size flatbed companies that run the I-5 corridor or western 11 states.
Next time you're sitting for a while, scope out the names of trucks that roll past your location.
You could try Dallas Mavis out of Montana. Also, how about Watkins-Shepard?

Answer:
Thanks Hoss I didn't know Watkins had a flatbed division.

Answer:

They used to a couple of years ago. I'm not positive if they still have a flatbed division or not. Sure don't hurt to ask them though.

Answer:
Yea they do I just filled out an application for them for flatbedding thanks Hoss, if anybody else has any other ideas or suggestions or companies I'm all ears don't let Hoss discourage ya hahaha only kidding.

Watkins & Shepard also uses flatbed trailers and refrigerated vans

Answer:
I like TruckFlix for all the info but the only thing that pisses me off about them is that they don't give any contact information on any companies like a address, phone number, website, E-Mail, or fax, but just for knowing the basics they work does anyone know a good trucking company directory I know www.everytruckjob.com but their flatbed section isn't working right maybe its just my computer

Answer:
Did you try Melton, TMC, Roehl, who took over the glass contract out of Lathrop (LOF)after JB Hunt and Charger had it?
If you have the time, cool your jets at the nearest Sierra-Pacific saw mill and see who hauls out of 'em. BOL

Answer:
I talked to Melton and they said We don't usually hire in your area go figure and TMC I got all excited about and then the recruiter tells me how old are and then you gotta be 23 to work for us at least I know when I turn 23 there's about a half a dozen companies that will hire me.

Answer:

Answer:
I assume you must be in the Fresno area. You might want to check out Sherman Bros. out of Eugene, Or. A good company who runs I-5 and BC. with some loads covering the other 11 western.

Answer:
Did Vans for a while and didn't like it at all for various reasons Vans have good sides and bad sides such as Flatbeds I will look into Sherman bros. and see what they can offer and yes I live in the Fresno area.

Answer:
I'm with Hoss on this one. Look for a medium-sized company, or even a small fleet. That should get you away from forced-dispatch. Forced dispatch sucks bigtime no matter what trailer you pull, but it has got to be the worst for flatbedders.
