facing a tough decision
Question:
i've got to make a tough decision - at age 42, I have found myself at a crossroads and need to make a decision by 4 pm Thursday (tomorrow). what's my choice? take a job I don't really want for $55K or take a chance on a dream which is driving a truck.
while it seems like my back is against the wall because i have to make a decision by tomorrow, i've been thinking about this for over 6 months -reading the posts on this forum and learning a lot from everyone - but now it is crunch time for me.
has anyone ever been faced with an offer for a decent paying job and turned it down to go into trucking? how did it turn out for you?

Answer:
Sorry to say, any answer given is probably not going to be the right one. You are the one who has to make the decision. If driving is your dream, then pursue it. A job you hate is just that, a job. Good luck to you.... I ride for those who can't! POW/MIA - You are NOT forgotten!!

Answer:
Take the job. You can enter the trucking industry @ any time, there will always be a need for drivers for the unseen future. The job may translate into something better down the road.

Answer:
That's a tough decision.
I've quit decent paying jobs because the boss was an asshat, but I didn't do that and then go trucking.
Me and ultimatums don't work. Had a boss tell me once, "You WILL do this or else." I says, "Ya think so?", and turned around, walked away, punched out and left.
It took a couple weeks, but I found something that paid a bit less but was more 'my type of work'.

Answer:
Only you can make the decision. I would consider any future advancement
concerning the "job" as compared to Trucking. The fact remains that
Trucking is a job that shatters "dreams" constantly.
Answer:
Don't mean to be mean or rude but are you serious, TAKE THE JOB!!!!!!!! for heaven's sake, but it's your decision and choice, some truck driver can't tell you what to do, if you want some advice or guidance then talk to your friends and family because they will be the ones affected by your decision not us, and I agree, you can go into trucking at any time the driver shortage isn't going to end any time soon, and the training companies and the Mill Schools will always be around, good luck in whatever you do.

Answer:
Since you have so little time to make your decision, I would suggest you take the job. You can then check further into trucking, and make arrangements that will set you up better if you do decide to go into trucking.
The time in the job, which isn't bad pay to start, will give you time to compare what your lifestyle differences would be between the choices you have. Do you like steady hours, steady pay, or are you willing to sacrifice some things like family time, etc.
Unless there is some reason not to take the job on a trial basis, take it.

Answer:
...and remember as the old saying goes good things happen over time and great things happen all at once.

Answer:

How badly do you need that income? Because you can pretty well bet that you will only see half of that if you go into trucking. Can you/will you be able to live on $25K a year? If the answer is no, then take the job.
As others have said, trucking will always be here, that job won't. And yo could end up hating trucking and only be making half as much for twice the work! Now wouldn't that suck?
Answer:
I don't see what the big problem is
Trucking will be here for a long time, take the 55 grand a year job and see if you really hate it that much
You won't make that kind of money in trucking, at least not right off the bat.
Try the job for 6 months and if you can't stand it any longer then go an fulfill your dream.
Remember there is a 110% turn over in the trucking industry for a reason, it can eat and spit out even the toughest.

Answer:

take the job, rent a huge motorhome when vacation time comes around and go pretend your a truckdriver for 2 weeks.
one of us will be happy to dispatch you in your motor home just like a big time truck driver and let you get the feel of it,after your two week vacation is over, you will no longer dream about driving a truck
you will return to your 55k job and be thankful you are so lucky to have it.
Answer:

I volunteer as Central region Dispatch.
Answer:

Ok I'll be northeast region dispatch, want to play ping pong with him
Answer:
I want to be Night Dispatch!! Geting paid to be incompetent would be an interesting experience - would be good training for a cushy government or Union job!
Answer:
If you want to drive a truck, not fill a dream. I would take the truck job.
If you just want to do something diff. I would take the truck job.
If you want to do something and get back in your carrer fiel in like 3 years. Do not touch a truck.
Truck driver on a app is a bad bad thing. Better to say you were in jail those years. Really.202 N Main Street
