Inverter Question
Question:
The company I drive for does not let us hard wire inverters to the battery. Best I can do is the cigarette lighter, or the other 12v plugs. Highest inverter I can find with the plug is 500 watts, with a 1000 watt peek. The smallest Microwave I can find is 600. Same with a George Foreman clone. being that the inverter peeks at 1000, would this work if nothing else is running? Is there any other solutions? HELP!!
Scotty

Answer:
I'd try and find some sort of 12 volt cooking appliances... might cost a little more but better then buring your truck down
Most inverter "peak" power ratings are just that, peak comsumption. Which usually means maximum handled "turn-on surge" before the fuses pop.

Answer:
It will NOT run the Mirco...but...If you have the small George Foreman, it WILL run that.(I just did a steak on my small G.Foreman a few days ago. )

Answer:
a 500 watt with a plug
Biggest I ever seen was 400 watt. All the 500 watt and up had to be hardwired.
If you did find a 500 watt with a plug I would not use it. It would most likely overwhelm the wiring to the power outlet.
Take a look at THIS Post
It talks about a lot of the 12 volt applicances you can get for the truck.

Biggest I ever saw was 400 as well, untill I went to Sams Club. They have a 500 that plugs in to the lighter fo $29!!! Works great. I have been using it for a few weeks without a problem.

UPDATE:
I found a **700** WATT that plugs in to the accessory (lighter). The 500 I have is listed as manufactured by "Power on Board". Reading the fine print, it is Vector Manufacturing Ltd. They make a 700 Watt under there own name.

Last month, I had a brand new truck require some extensive rewiring due to the driver plugging in some oversized inverter into a socket and promptly frying most of the dashboard. Cost over $1000 for repair. Guess who's getting the bill??
Seriously, invest in 12v appliances. By the time you fry your 3rd inverter, you'll realize that you would've been miles ahead by buying 12v appliances in the first place.
