Honesty Is Not Always Good?
Question:
Hi again...newbie here just wanting to clarify something. In my earlier post I was disqualified because of a prescription medication I listed on my application. Now, is it safe to say that I shouldn't list that medication on future apps or tell the doc that I am on it? What about drug screening? If it shows up in the pee pee test and it's not listed on my app then isn't that grounds for automatic disqualification? Grant it, the regs state that any drug outside the required drugs screened for are not legally checked for, but I am curious as to what happens if I don't tell. I know there are MANY drivers under the influence of certain prescription meds that are considered disqualifying...do you just not tell anyone you're on them? Have you ever been caught taking them and been let go? I am the only person that knows how this medication affects me. And for 7 years I have not had a problem. Any information you can provide would be appreciated.

Answer:
Honesty is always the best policy. If you're honest, then you can't be made out to be a liar.
Does honesty have it's drawbacks? Yes it does, as you have found out.
Is there any way you can get a statement from your Dr. explaining the situation?

Answer:
But in the case with USX it didn't matter. Even Stevens Transport won't accept me. So far Swift will accept me but hubby really wants to go with Covenant. I have to go to a company that has a training school. I was also looking at Roehl but of course don't know what their policy is on taking certain precription meds. Maybe after I get my CDL and drive for a company for a year or so then I will have more choices of companies that will accept me.

Answer:
I saw that advice in the other post. In this case it is the wrong advice. The medication you take will show up and if you lied you could end up with a failed drug test. Thats a bad thing.
It is a hard drug to get off and can take months because of it's addictive nature. But as Hoss said honesty is the best policy. I have always been honest on applications. It has never been a problem. Companies that don't like what they see just don't call. The ones that accept it respond.
Try the note from your Doc and make some phone calls. It may or may not turn out the way you want. Give it an honest try and you'll soon find out. Just don't lie about it. Lying and being caught can be even worse.

Answer:
Most drug screens will only test for illegaL drugs. Drug labs are loooking for certain types of drugs. Now, if you are "scared" that this certain drug might show up in your drug screen, you should have your doctor write a statement explaining your situation.
And again, I will repeat what I said before, there is such a thing of telling too much. Not only on your application but in everyday routine. You dont divulge your personal life do you? Some things are personal and others are not privileged to the information.
I know a driver that had syphillis at one time.
He has been driving for years and he has always checked "no" to the question on syphillis. No doctor has ever found out of his former condition and he has never revealed it. I guess he has had 10 DOT physicals. He keeps quite and what is the point of revealing his former condition?
Just a grouchy old man.

Answer:
"he has always checked "no" to the question on syphillis" Dang you are getting old. I've never ever seen that question on any apps..
It will be tested for.
Benzodiazepines, alprazolam, Xanax
Lots of available info about it. In this case honesty will be her best bet.
