On the way home from O'Hare the other night I noticed several things that reminded me that drivers are not aware of certain regulations regarding the securement of the crank handle for the landing gear and proper pre-trip inspections.

Paragraph (a)(2) refers to the landing gear crank. Landing gear properly maintained has a securement clip for the crank. If the landing gear crank handle securement clip is missing a bunge cord works just as well.
Lights can cause a trailer to be placed Out-of-Service (OOS) on several occassions:
1. No lights will cause the vehicle to be placed OOS if the lights are non-operational when needed, i.e. after dark, or inclement weather.
2. Left or right rear turn signals will cause a vehicle to be placed OOS
3. No brake lights.

This is actually one of my pet peeves - replacement cranks that are put on the trailer that aren't the same style as those they've replaced. You find that out when you attempt to secure it on the clip, and it won't work (usually the crank is longer/shorter, or the bolt slot area is turned 90 degrees, so the crank swing arc is wrong). I end up cursing, and then securing it with either a bungee or duct tape.
