So! What about this?
Question:
Greetings, all. I am scheduled to leave tomorrow (today for those on the east coast.)
I have been focused, in my mind considered in like Flynn and hired by Watkins Shepard since I turned in app and all supporting paperwork a month ago. Please keep in mind that I am currently in Hawaii and disclosing this in all correspondence with recruiters, etc. I bought my plane ticket over three weeks ago, have ground trans from SEATAC to the Greydog and then on to Missoula. I got a voice mail from someone in their personnel department that said that they needed to do a "post employment offer questioner" and by the way my app didn't fax too well and would I please send it again.
Please don't consider me oh so special (even though I do since I grew up over here in Hawaii and am at the Family home now) but is it somewhat strange, kind of unsettling that I am being processed the day before I am scheduled to leave trans continentally, actually a big deal for me. If there was any trepidation, I would have hoped that it would have been in the first moments of my application process, not after I have spent almost $400 to get there and have a cashier's check for their down payment of $500.
Am I being a fuss? Paranoid? I have to call this morning and answer their questioner. Should I give it a second thought or fret? Driver J?
Best to all of you,

Answer:

companies offer jobs to anyone who sends in an application with nothing on it exempting them from employment at the company, weather they will hire you once you show up and they do an actual reveiw of the application and a background check is another story
in other words they don't spend a penny on processing applications untill the victim shows up on their doorstep
Answer:

Cashier's check??? I don't understand. You are going to work for them but you have to bring them a chashier's check?? For 500 bucks?
I don't get it. But something tells me you're about to get hosed.

Answer:

I have to agree. Although I haven't heard anything 'really bad' about the company, you giving them $500 of your hard earned money just don't sound right.
What's the $500 for?

Answer:
The only thing I can think the $500 is for is a down payment of a CDL school that Watkins-Shepard has or is sponsoring.
It is not uncommon any more for companies to require some sort of down payment when they finance a driver to go through school.
If it is for anything other than that then I agree. Someone is getting hosed.
Answer:
Somebody wants a job bad! Fly from Hawaii to Montana--that is enough to convince me
Most companies as Zigzag state, will not even start processing your application until you show up for orientation. In other words, if either party loses, it will be you.

Answer:
First, let me appologise for not making it clear that I am going to their school first, then work. That's what the $500 is for. I drove on a permit with my soon to be ex husband, but I want better skills that Watkins Shepard school is known for.
I called them and got the "work comp" questions, can you stand, stoop, bend, walk, sit, etc, etc and asked if I had ever been injured on the job or hospitalized in the past 20 years....Nope. I can imagine the work comp for the trucking companies is rough, and they are doing that to try to cover their bases. I understand, I worked in staffing for a few years. With questions answered she told me, "See you tomorrow." Relief!
Thank you to those that responded. I am excited and just wanting all of this to go smooth and by the book, (Murphy's Law not withstanding!) I will relax! I won't have the same computer access for awhile but I will check in when I can. I have learned so much reading here! Thank you to all of you! See you out there!
Best wishes,
Linda
