Schneider or US Xpress
Question:
i have been giving both of these carriers real hard consideration and was just wandering what the members here might have to say about which to choose? i really liked the idea that U.S. has SE regional and that would get me home more often plus that is the area i like to run other than the lower midwest. there no touch freight seems to be a little higher at 98% than schneiders 90% and both seem to have about the same percentage of drop and hook. i have already got cdls and have driven a manual before so i also like that US has auto's. as far as schneider goes, they seem to be pretty organized such as already having a load ready instead of sitting around waiting on one. a recruiter and website only tells one side of the story so what exactally is the lowdown on the comparison between these two and which seems to be the better choice? Answer: Do you prefere orange or red? Answer: lol, that may be what it boils down too Answer: I stayed 14 months with USX got tired of having something like 12 difrent dispatchers in that time frame they were always changing them for some reason got tired of driving a piece of C rap truck and being told but we dont have any new ones while there was over 200 brand new Columbias sitting on the yard and I got tired of seeing Jersey every week Personaly if I had to do it again i'd give Scheinder a good look but they do have a pretty strict no idle policy so ya might wanna ask about that. Charles Answer: xx Answer: i really do thank everyone for the replies. i have been spending some time on pumpkindriver reading and asking questions. i was under the impression that sni's idle policy was mainly for bonus's, such as if your idleing time was under a certain amount you would get a bonus and i have read where some of there drivers forgoed the bonus to idle so they could keep cool or warm. although i have been wrong in the past though CLUSX00686 was you running otr or regional with US? Answer: You may want to consider that Schneider has more divisions (van, tank, flat) so, over time, you could change wagons without changing the company. BOL Answer: i called us xpress earlier and talked to a very nice lady and was more than helpful. she regretted to inform me that us no longer has a SE regional and admitted that it is really hurting there recruiting as far as drivers goes. so us xpress doesnt look so good anymore. Answer: I ran all 48 Answer: http://roundtable.truck.net/viiewt.php?t=46862 Answer: STUFFS SNI has a bunch of old RED CRETE trucks as well as White and Orange Answer: I drove those old crete trucks for over a year. My first day, they put me in one that had the clutch slipping, and it couldn't go uphill except very very slowly). The previous driver had told the safety guy about the problem, but I guess they wanted a second opinion They put me in another one the next day, since I had written "not safe to drive" on maintenance request. Lucky me, the cutch was fine on this one. The air suspension linkage was missing though, so it rode kinda rough. But after I wrote it up a couple times, they fixed that. The most fun I had was when the airbag under the drivers seat started leaking. up and down and up and down all day long. After the mechanics tinkered with it one day, they said there was nothign wrong with it. I was driving along and suddenly SWOOOOSH!!!!!! I was sitting on the floor! It was a little scarey trying to pull over to the side not being able to see, but I managed to survive that day. They couldn't fix it because they didn't have the part. And for some reason they never ordered the part. They finally replaced it with another part they took off a wrecked truck, so my seat would actually stay at the same height. It took a while to get used to that after the leaky one for so long. Unfortujnately, the dweeb mechanics hooked it up wrong, so it would only adjust upward, but wouldn't go down. It still leaked slowly though, so if you got it a little too high, it would be just right a few hours later. Also had major electrical problems. Radio kept shutting off. flashers kept burning out. I got shocked several times when i touched the control panel back in the sleeper. Batteries ran down constantly ... needed jumped a dozen or so times over the winter. mechanics couldn't find the problem, let alone fix it. Time does not permit me to elaborate in full detail just how junky the trucks were that Schneider had me driving. No way would I recommend Schneider to anyone. See my other posts about Schneider: http://roundtable.truck.net/viiewt.php?t=46862 Answer: Schneider has a tank division...enough said !"Pain is weakness leaving the body." "Nobody ever drowned in their own sweat." U.S.M.C. '89-'95 0351, '95-'99 6531 (I.Y.A.O.Y.A.S.) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/cyanide971/Carlo8919.jpg Answer: Schneider also has a specialized glass division. You would be home more often living in NC. I've been told it's a little difficult at first to get into the swing of it so money would be tight but it works out with experience. Answer: thanks guys for the additional replies and info. from what i was told by another sni driver, they are suppose to be adding on alot more dedicated runs for those that want more hometime and also they maybe adding a se regional. now i dont know if this is a good method or not but when im driving in my car on interstate, i take note of the trucks i see. i see alot of swift trucks up and down thru here, also heartland express, jb hunt and then schneider. wether that means i would have a better chance of getting home since they have alot of freight going thru here i dont know but it sems possible.
