Two years and still going, continuation of How I got Started
Question:
http://roundtable.truck.net/viewtopic.php?t=179...ighlight=dominion
The link is to my original post which contains my one year update. It is now my two year anniversary. I just got a card in the mail from the company so I know it's a full 2 years.
A simple recap of this past year is still running team to CA on the same bid with the same partner. Worked 5 days in a week about 3 times, mostly 3 1/2 to 4 days. Grossed 60k and saved more than I ever have. Now I will be at top pay of .48 per mi. so 2005 is looking real good. My vacation and sick pay will increase also as it's based on last years pay. Company just raised our drop/hook/fuel/breakdown/delay/out of route pay. 401k match increased form 4 percent to 6 percent and the match for last year was 56 percent. The company has just bought another LTL company and increased our number of terminals and amount of freight.
This is what worked for me, I can't guarantee it would work for anyone else. LTL has a high turnover rate just not as high as truckload. I think much of it is from people not knowing what they are getting into. I did my research but also went knowing that I would be a team driver with someone I knew and also knew he had enough seniority for a bid run. I have seen many quit because they couldn't find a compatible partner or didn't wait until they had seniority for a better run.

Answer:
I've always been a little confused about team pay. Is that $.48/mile yours alone or is that split between you and your co-driver so that you, yourself are actually only getting $.24/mile?
Answer:
That is .48 cpm split.
No company (LTL or otherwise) will pay company drivers .96 cpm per team.
But you say:
You say "only" .24 cpm. But if you do the math (.24 cpm X 6,000 team miles = $1,440 per week to each driver)----now does that .24 cpm look better? It's apparent this place is never going to change....then again; why should it? It gets the clientel it deserves.

Answer:
Please refrain from posting stories of success or happiness in trucking here. This froum is for disgrunteled drivers only and those considering a career in trucking that only come here to be discouraged.

Answer:
What Ice Man said.........
sounds like you have it good...please don't let the Goon Squad read this...they'll tell you you are lying, that you really aren't happy, and that was 60 bucks, not 60 grand.

Answer:
That's why I don't post or come to this forum very often any more.

Answer:
Maybe some should read Beemans link before commenting.

And that's a shame, you represent an alternative to the TL OTR mentality
as far as training and slave wages.

Now why wouldn't he be "happy"? Recieves renumeration for all duties performed and no 'cooking' in the Cab.
Answer:
Looks like a pretty good deal, especially in comparison with what's out there
Save all the money you can. You never know when on of the good work ethic gang (cheap dweller outfits) will come along and cut the rates to the bone.
Good luck beeman.

Answer:
3 1/2 to 4 days ( Ca & back - ???? ) will not get you 6000 miles. So for making $1440/wk., we can save that example for another time, unless you want to work 6 days. You don't want 6000 miles a week every week, believe me. I don't look at bouncing around in a team set up as a success story. But you know it doesn't take much to impress some.______

Beeman has found something that works for him. That is all that matters.
Answer:

That's kinda why I was asking. And I didn't mean like "only the .24/mile. I just didnt' really understand how the team pay worked. I've read where a newbie team driver started out at like .15/mile or so and I thought that was kinda low but I guess when you factor in the miles a team can run versus single, it's good pay.
Makes me think that if/when I get my class a, I'll have to look closer at running team.
Answer:
oh and if that .48/mile is with a LTL, would it be the same with a TL company after 2 years?
Answer:
so whats this got to do with somebody that lives in the middle of nowhere marching off to a dweller carrier doing the irregular route truckload crap with no chance of finding a regular run do to where they live and spending the next 10 to 40 years spending weeks on the road at a time
the only thing you should be saying is thank you to all the people who warned you to stay away from that dweller crap and you couldn't even imagine having to truck like that
step out of your self centered little world and fire up another brain cell and try to get the bigger picture, you happen to live in the right place, your gig is meanless to somebody that lives off the beaten path
what if you move to florida, your screwed,so why come across as trucking is just great and sucker somebody who lives in Plattsburg NY or Midland texas to even think it will work out the same for them
whats conway paying their new truckload division team drivers

Answer:
I started out running team right out of school with Interstate Dist. Co. splitting 40cpm, granted that was in 2000. They don't take student drivers anymore but I think that drivers with 6mos to 1 year are splitting 42-44cpm now. They are a big team outfit and I imagine this is right around what most TL team operations are getting.
I lasted 7mos teaming, then went solo.

Answer:
If I was in my "self centered little world" I wouldn't be posting this in the Newbies section trying to show others something besides truckload. I have gotten a few people hired on at OD and have answered questions on the road.
Midland,TX ,just happen to have an OD terminal behind the Warfield truckstop. We've got quite a few terminals in FL, and doesn't Me live in FL and her husband get on with Watkins?
Oh I forgot, everyone should thank ZigZag for their job and their place in life. By the way here's a new flash, I used to live in the NE. If had stayed there I'd probably be as bitter as you.
