Question:
I got a recent job offer from a local company that delivers wholesale fuel to customers all runs are local and get weekends off pay starts at $13/hr and tops at $16/hr it sounds decent at least almost to good to be true that is why my radar is up I have a lil over 1 year flatbedding throughout the west and am looking to get into tankers, most ppl tell me that hauling fuel sucks and is not very good work I asked the guy what happened to the last guy and he said it just didnt work out he said they usually look for guys with two years experience but he said he would take me with one he said they just say that to deter recent grads from applying I dont know if thats a good thing or not he is really enthusiastic that I am young and in shape as was my last boss becuase he worked me to death hahaha I am just curious what your guys' take on this whole deal is I really value the opinion of veryone on here thanx for all the help

Answer:
If you can, ask one of their drivers how it is. Of course you know what they say about opinions.........
I have considered hauling a gas tanker, but I have issues with freight that sloshes around. One thing that does make me nervous is you are basically carrying a bomb. One wrong move, and it's your behind. We had a Hess truck some years back stop on the tracks. Well along came the train, and the driver either didn't hear it, or see the gates coming down, or...who knows. What did happen is a lot of people were killed.
The pay sounds ok. Make sure time and a half over 40 and so on.

Answer:
I have hauled fuel before when i first started about 10 years ago and i enjoyed it very much, i would go back to it if it paid a little bit better money. There was actually nothing wrong with it,it is very easy work.If you haul fuel, the trailers usually have compartments in them which are seperated by what are known as baffles thus making the load impossible to move around so it's almost like pulling a flatbed until you get to a sharp exit ramp and the situation comes up that is called "roll out" this is where if you are going to fast the fuel will go up on the side of the trailer and push you off the road, just drive slow and take it easy and you'll have no worries.Got anymore questions just post with my name on it and i'll answer....Good luck with it

Answer:
It is steady work , do they have decent equipment ( reason previous driver might have left )
Answer:
Sometimes the hours might not be the most desireable, alot of night work which is by far the best. The daytime running will be plagued with alot of long lines waiting to load at the "GAS Hole",most of the mom and pop outfits will run their one or two trucks during the day making you have to wait to get loaded but you can have about 9000 gals. of gas dumped of at a station in about 30-45 minutes depending on how many hoses you want to stretch out.Like i said before i really enjoyed it.

Answer:
The equipment is ok from what I can see and I guess it is delivery to local business with their own underground or above ground tanks, it is daytime hours, I know I love the night time or really early early morning myself dominopizzadrvr, I talked to one driver sort of a company veteran he said they work new drivers to the bone and many guys don't like the constant change in hours and whatnot, they have two positions open one hauling doubles and one hauling bobtail, I do not have bobtail experience myself I actually love doubles, hauling them for over a year now I love em, when I have to haul a 48 or 53 I feel weird without having my bend in the middle (a lot wider turns haha) once you figure out how to back them up a lil ways at least its great. I have a interview next week hopefully I can find out more then, thanks for all the help and adice guys

Answer:
I don't know about the LEFT coast but out here on the right mostly all of the tankers pulled around here are 40 ft and no longer

Answer:
Try contacting Halffast. He pulls a fuel tanker locally around the KC area. He seems to be doing ok hauling fuel.
