Question:
I have been reading your thread about Shaffer And I like what you have to say about the company. I was wondering if you are a trainer? If not how was the trainer you had. I am a newbie looking into several different companies,Trying to gather as much info as possible. One of my main concerns is training. I want to be train to do things the right way and the safest way. I also hope to be treated with respect and not as some wet behind the ears newbie idiot who's fresh out of school. Of course I am fresh out of school and sure have a lot to learn, I just want someone to train me that understands or remembers what it was like when they were newbies. Any feed back is greatly appreciated.

Answer:
I don't think acklie companies (crete, shaffer or sunflower) will hire you as a new driver, i think you need experience to drive for them, i could be wrong but i think that's the deal.

Answer:

Answer:
I talked with Crete and was told I'll need 6 months experience before they will hire me. I talked with Shaffer and they said because of where i went to school they would hire me as long as i had a strong work history, and clean MVR report. BTW I have an interview with a local company this morning, if all goes well i'll be able to say home. Jimmijam

Answer:
sorry i was wrong, thanks for setting me straight, although i was sure crete required 2 yrs exp, guess i was wrong there also or did they change that policy?? must have.

Answer:
They must have changed their hiring requirements. I don't know for sure. But the recruiter i talk to at Crete said call him when i have 6 months OTR. The recruiter at shaffer said they hire student drivers on an individual basis. You have to have a strong work history and of course a clean MVR. BTW I went to that interview this morning WOW was that tough!!! I have never been asked so many guestions before. They wanted to know everything about my life history. It's a small local company CDL-B only but good pay and benefits,I tried a long time ago to get in but did'nt have a CDL. Again WISH ME LUCK. Thanks Jimmijam

Answer:
Crete will hire right out of school if you go to one they hire out of. If not then they will concider hireing you after 6 months with another company. If you are looking for a school then call Crete recruting maybe they can find one close to you they hire out of. Ask for Jeff Friesel He is the training coordinator.

Answer:
Hey, hope you're well. No, I don't train (have nowhere near the experience required by Shaffer for that), and did go with a trainer for 3 1/2 weeks to learn the Shaffer system. Can't remember if I touched on this in my Shaffer post or not, but here's the nitty-gritty on our training program. If you are brand new out of school it must be PTDI-certified, and you will go out for 8 weeks @ $400/week. The first several weeks you the student will do ALL of the driving and backing while the trainer observes you and your progress. In the "second phase" of training, the trainer will start driving a bit and you two will run as a modified team; slightly more miles than a solo driver would run but not where both of you will be going hard. Your last phase (2-3 weeks) will be done as a team, providing your trainer is comfortable in your abilities to drive and not wreck the truck while he/she sleeps! They are very safety minded here at Shaffer and the trainers will not release you unless you are simply ready to go alone.

Thanks for your response. I did talk to one of the recruiters at Shaffer and he did say i would be eligible for employment. The school i attended is PTDI certified. I am still thinking long and hard about where to start. I will still watch for your updates as to how things are going on the road. Jimmijam
