Can Anyone give me a little help
Question:
Can anyone give me a little help. I have a years experience. I was in an accident back in April of 04 and i was charged with Following Too Closely. I already had a citation on my record for Careless Driving in March of 04, for talking on my cell in the state of Pennsylvania. I have not drove for 11 months come April of this year. I want to get back on the road so badly. I lost my license for no insurance on my personal vehicle, but when I get it back in April I wanna go back on the road. I will do anything and I plan on telling the companies this. Anybody know of any companies, any help would be appreciated, I miss the road. Anybody know anything about Arctic Express out of Hilliard, OH, KLLM out of Jackson, MS, Knight Transportation, Southern Refrigerated Transportation, Lester Coggins, Werner, Boyd, Arrow, or Melton? Any information would be appreciated.
Answer:

All of these companies have one thing in common Josh. They all will turn you down with that record.
Sorry to be so blunt; but you did ask. It's apparent this place is never going to change....then again; why should it? It gets the clientel it deserves.

Answer:
Josh your best bet is going to be to put in applications out the wazoo and see who bites. Be sure to to include all your liscence issues. Then go with the best of who offers you a job.
Answer:
Try Veterans trucking. They hire most anyone. You'll have to look them up. I have never tried to so I dont know their numbers.

Answer:
In summary:
03/04 Careless driving
04/04 Following Closely with an accident
??/?? Suspended License
I suspect you did something to get the officer’s attention to cite you for the cell phone usage, same with the Suspended license.
In reality, I do not think you have demonstrated that you have the responsibility required to operate a CMV.
Following too closely is deadly for truck driver. I am not sure, but I think it is one of the seven deadly sins that is grounds for termination at Swift.
If you can return to driving within 5 years, consider yourself lucky. Personality, I hope you don’t. Sorry.

Answer:

this is really bad $hit. don't understand why so many drivers tail gate in a big truck. dumb and way to much of it going on out here. they have that new vo-rad system for collisian avoidance. i bet they modify vo-rad some day to monitor tail gating of drivers. send the siginal out the front too and match it to the speed. let it send off an alarm in the cab and record it to a black box and throw out a message over qual-com back to the office. that will fix that bs and save a lot of crashs and lives cause drivers wont do that bs no more.
Answer:
Many insurance companies consider the Careless as a major violation and that could disqualify you from insurability. Not mention that the inexperience and your driving record sends a very negative picture of you as a candidate for a professional driving position.

Answer:
The way big companies do background investigations and credit reports I don't think we'll see you in any of the trucks you listed very soon.
You gotta come off with a different attitude toward being a commercial driver. It is not a vacation trip that you do what you want when you want. A lot of drivers of CMV's have went to truck driving school with the notion that they will make great money and have little or no supervision. Well no matter who or where we drive, we all have "bosses" to answer to.
In your case you answered to the big boss that suspended your driving privledges. Yes that's right, a drivers license is a privledge and not a given right. As a commercial driver you have to protect that privledge by doing your job in a safe lawfull manner. As stated by others , you have not done that.
You didn't say in your post, but I can only presume you were fired by the carrier you were employed by at the time this happened. It's most likely in the DAC services file and will haunt you for a few years to come. You may try a few smaller companies and have better luck. Most insurance simply want to see a better driving record than you can present right now. You may be able to make money by being a speaker at truck driving schools on how to ruin a career within one year of commercial driving. I hope you have learned a good lesson and will protect you privledges no matter what vehicle your driving. I worked with a driver once that thought his stuff didn't stink and got a lot of tickets. He was driving a specialized 19 axle heavy haul and thought the world could not live without him. The insurance company got involved and said they would insure him if the company paid an extra $1000.00 per month. The driver continued with the thought that the company needed him until the owner said if you want to work here you pay the extra 1000 per month. Once it was put like that the driver said he couldn't afford it and left the company. That was 2 years ago and to this day he has not been able to get a driving job. A driving career down the drain because he simply violated to many of the rules. I urge you to call and talk to recruiters about your situation before you put anything in writing like an application. A recruiter can tell you over the phone if you meet the requirements. Good luck

Answer:
As with the previous posters you are in a NO HIRE catagory by reputible carriers.

Answer:
Call LCT out of Okahumpka, Fl. They will hire any warm body. I speak from personal knowledge. My sister has been with them for 14 years and still doesn't have any kind of retirement. They do a background check but if your license is valid they will probably give you a chance. 1-800-828-1448
If I wasn't supposed to post that number Rose, I'm sorry. Take it out.

Answer:
The LCT mentioned above is Lester Coggins Trucking. They are now majority owned by Gainey, so their insurance requirements may be higher than in the past.
Really doubtful you will get on with anyone with that record. Probably better for all that you don't.Sometimes you have to dig through a lot horsesh#t to find the pony.

Answer:
They are wholly owned by Harvey Gainey. Have been for many years. Insurance requirements are the same that they were when I hired on with them 18 yrs ago.I am at that terminal every 2 to 3 weeks and nothing has changed, just a few faces. Yes it was Lester Coggins Trucking but now it's LCT. They are hiring people right out of training schools with NO road time. Tells me something. Doesn't it you?

Answer:
On top of everything else, you've been out of a truck for 11 months. You will, if you get hired, probably be starting out from square one.
Try something in construction in your area. I hate to say it, but if you are that careless with little things to keep your license in good standing, maybe it's time to rethink this career.

Answer:
It is not that you have been out of driving for 11 months that will disqualify you, it is your record. If you have the CDL class A and a good driving record, but lack experience, you can usually get right on and train for some period of time or take a "refresher" course or something. But your record, my friend, will keep the insurance company from approving you almost everywhere.
But all hope is not lost. Try garbage collection companies like WM. They are usually looking for people to start out in residential collection. If they are good employees, they can become drivers, etc. There are also courier services where you are doing what is essentially a driving job, but are operating your own vehicle, so driving record usually does not matter. Or even a yard jockey or yard driver. Since you do not go off company property and only park trailers, you only need a CDL, they might not care about the record. These are some ideas worth a try.
I agree with the other posters who said that you should not be out there on the open road in a commercial vehicle. Until you have shown many more years of safe driving, the responsibility of operating an 80,000 pound big truck should not be yours.

Answer:

Roehl has Vorad and it does measure following distance, as well as hard braking. The information needs to be extracted from the units on a regular basis though. It isn't just automatically transmitted back through the satellites. Great tool though!
