skills exam in Ohio
Question:
tommorrow I guess I find out what i'm made of. can anyone gimme any tips as far as what an examiner will look for during the road test? Answer: While there are subtle differences from state to state the skills tests are pretty standard anymore. 1. Know your pretrip front and back. Know what you are looking for and at. How much detail the examiner wants will depend on the examiner, but be prepared for a full grill. 2. Safety. This is a big one. They will not be expecting perfection on your driving skills but will be looking to make sure you have at least competant basic skills and that you are able to operate the equipment is a safe manner. Do not get rattled if you scratch a gear or if your wheels track a little too far from the curb. Better that than hitting something or running over the curb. The big thing is to really listen to what the examiner is telling you to do. I have seen a few fail because they did not follow instructions. Do not be afraid to ask questions if you do not understand. Answer: I finished the pre-trip and the maneuvers portion. That damned jack-knife almost got me but I pulled it together. Now my road exam is actually a retest. I know one of the things that ain't right with it is in some locations through the test route, the speed limit signs aren't posted very well. And there's a chance that anyone could drive 25mph when the speed limit is 35mph. Unfortunately, you dont realize this until your a few blocks down the road, then the examiner can get you for impeding. thats B******T Answer: There is always a chance that you, or anyone, will get a real azz for an examiner, but one thing about driving a truck, especially OTR, is that you are always going to be in unfamilar areas and you need to learn to quickly and carefully read all road signs. Answer: I took my test in ohio a while back. When you do the Pretrip make sure you talk so the examiner can hear you. The guy I had marked me for missing an item that I checked and called out but he didn't hear me. No big deal at the time as I still did well on the exam. Also on the yard skills and driving test try to focus. If you are taking the test you probably have had plenty of practice so try not to have a brain fart just because the examiner is there. Again this happened to me. I am usually good on the yard skills portion but almost failed that day. Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
