Antifreeze
Question:
Well the truck would not start because the antifreeze level was low. I guess there is a sensor in the over flow bottle that in turn informs the onboard computer to prevent the truck from starting. OK well I needed some antifreeze, well off to K mart I went, 6 bucks for a bottle, cheap eh! I never knew there were 2 differnt kinds of anti freeze. Well the green is for cars and the red is for trucks, Red thicker.............I asked many about mixing them. I had a 1000000 different answers............if your gonna run a green use only green,,,,,,,,,,,,if u r gonna run w red use only red. I was told the combonation of both would just defeat the purpose of them to begin with. One guy said it was gonna blow up, another guy said it makes no difference at all...........well I talked to a truck mechanic the other day, he said , dont worry at all..........well im not going to , its running fine get a back up of the red or green for your truck and avoid stress. Speaking of green, how in the hell do u pee in a bottle while driving. I pee in a bottle just not while driveing, I suggest a 1 gallon gator aid bottle, there really nice! lol heeheee happy holidays Answer: Personaly I'd have more concern about what happened to the AF as compared to what kind. You fail to check the level during your pretrip? BTW the type is determaned by the truck maker depending on their specific needs. Answer: The additive went some were. That is all it is. Were did it go? The orange or red is supposed to be the long run stuff. The green is supposed to be the replace every year stuff. I have no idea about the properties of each. I would find out were the water went. It left. It should not have left.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: No time, you only have 15 minutes. Just kidding. I would take a good hard look around the engine. On the sides at the hose connections etc. Just about every where you can to see if there are signs of a leak or where it may have leaked at one time. Also check around the radiator or water cap and see if it leaked there. It either leaked or it's been a long time since it was checked. Answer: Ok ...... Green in the old reliable kind we have all used for years Red is new extended life ,,,(yeah right) then we have GMs red stuff called Dex-cool,,,do not mix this with the green ....it will have a chemical reation and cause a ,,,,sludge...Like water n oil its all ment to work the same and most will together...just watch out ...if nothing else call the # on the jug Answer: Could also be an internal leak. Head Gasket maybe. Answer: I'd say head gasket or liner O-rings. Does the oil look 'sludgy' or 'milky'? Answer: there is one more place it could be going doesnt anybody remember aout the heater core. easy way to find out is to lift the floor pad up on the passenger side an see if its wet by the breaker panel. thats how i found mine. Answer: There is a light they use that will show coolent leaks. In my One ton. It was the heater core. Never had any water build up. I guess it was evaprating very slow. Maybe you could have them use that light and see if there is a leak. I works good on the hoses as well to find a small pin hole. I would ask a shop if they have one of these lights and see what they would charge to take a quick look at it.202 N Main Street Summerfield Il 62289 TRUCK PARKING AVAILABLE! Answer: Yep, forgot about that. i had a Cummins that leaked quite a bit. I never could spot the leak but could see water run marks on the pssr side of the engine where something was leaking around the heads. Sure enough that was it and required new gaskets. Thats the only reason I said look at every thing. It can dry up from heat and you may not see liquid only a mark where it's been leaking or residue from the coolant. . Could even be some one opened the cap while it was hot. Answer: do not use car anti freeze in heavy duty diesel motors, that green stuff in K-mart isn't the same stuff as used in trucks. I don't know about the red or long life stuff as its called low silicate green stuff must be low silicate for heavy duty trucks Answer: Texaco Extended Life Coolant/Anti-Freeze(RED) Texaco Extended Life Coolant System is a revolutionary new breakthrough in heavy duty coolant/antifreeze technology. The patented inhibitors in Texaco Extended Life Coolants offer coolant system protection for 600,000 miles of on-road use (12,000 hours off-highway use) with the addition of only one Texaco Extender package at 300,000 miles or 6,000 hours. Texaco Extended Life Coolants do not contain silicates, borate's, phosphates, nitrates or amines traditionally found in fully formulated heavy duty coolants. Based on Texaco's patented carboxylate technology, the system of coolant products includes: Texaco Extended Life Prediluted 50/50 Coolant/Anti-freeze - A mixture of coolant and deionized water Texaco Extended Life Coolant/Anti-freeze - A concentrate to adjust the freeze point as required by ambient conditions Texaco Extender A prescribed recharge package for one application at 300,000 miles Buy Now! Texaco Extended Life Coolant System is specifically formulated for heavy duty diesel and natural gas engines. It is also suitable for use in mixed fleet applications. Texaco Traditional Anti-Freeze/Coolant Texaco Anti-Freeze/Coolant is a superior quality, single phase, ethylene glycol based product. It is a low silicate, all-purpose coolant designed for use in both heavy duty diesel and automotive engines, particularly those containing aluminum alloys. Answer: The red ( actually pink) anti-freeze for my Detroit already has additives to keep the nitrate levels correct. The green has none, so you have to add DCA Additive. High nitrate levels will cause pitting on the outside of the piston liners. If your engine is under warranty and you have a liner crack, they will NOT honor the warranty if pitting is in evidence. Make sure your nitrate levels are correct! Answer: http://www.arrowheadradiator.com/cavitation%2C_...oling_systems.htm PREVENTING CAVITATION Since cavitation cannot be prevented entirely, the use of supplemental coolant additives (SCAs) is necessary to provide a continuous protective coating on the metal surfaces in the cooling system. This coating will aid in controlling and limiting the damage done to the engine as a result of cavitation. ======================================== http://www.cummins.com/na/pdf/en/distributors/l.../powerup_v4_1.pdf If you ever plan on owning a truck read this crap Answer: I was hard at work getting the full story, you beat me too it Copyright ? 2006 - 2007 www.thankhealth.com Privacy Policy
